Just started to get this leak on mine. How do you remove the trim under the light fitting.

I don't want to pull it to hard in case it breaks. As the art mistress said to the gardener.

Just follow the video on YouTube, search for tailgate freelander 2, I think it is done by PowerfulUK.

I don't think it was the seal, as it looked ok, but put some Vaseline on just in case.

While giving it a clean, noticed something inside which was "C" shaped, Yep, o-ring on water nozzle had gone.
Luckily, being a hoarder of things that may be useful one day, I had one and all looks ok.

Just done mine today.. had a bit of a nightmare getting the plastic trim off with the plastic pegs intact.. anyway.. my seal looked ok but i replaced it anyway with a new one from ebay for a couple of quid.. i put some Vaseline on it too so fingers crossed.. One thing that i wasn't sure about was the washer pipe.. it took me a few attempts to get this back in right so that the jet washer water wasn't going back in side the light cover! it still doesn't quite seem right now.. i didn't notice any 'o ring' but wasn't exactly sure what this is.. presume its a small rubber ring that goes round the end of the washer pipe? I don't think i had one!

Bringing this threat back as I have just found water in my tailgate door handle and am not sure where it came from. Do those with this issue ever find water there that pours out when opening the tailgate door?

I also recently installed roof rails and was parked on and hill facing up during a rain storm. I guess it is possible water leak end in from the bolt holes if I didn’t do a good job at sealing them.

It’s usually the top stop light but maybe too much of a coincidence fitting the roof rails.

Driving behind my Freelander in my wife's car I noticed my high level brake light not working. Went to replace bulb tonight I found that it's already been sealed with some sort of mastic over and under the original foam seal.
Its all come off while removing it so temporarily sealed with insulation tape. Is there a best fix for this? New foam seal or just clear silicone, or both? Could prevent it ever leaking with sikaflex but would never be able to change a bulb ever again. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Sadly, you either need to replace it or it will likely reoccur IMO. I tried a new gasket sold by a UK vendor on EBay, I tried Vaseline, I tried silicone. The silicone lasts the longest but pressure washing always caused a small leak which of course will eventually get worse but it the cheapest/easiest fix. The replacement light which I also snagged on EBay has currently solved the pressure leak issue 100% to date but only time will tell.

I got mine from Romania(?) on EBay, the price was better than the dealer even with shipping. I also believe that PowerfulUK sells a replacement model but their shipping to Canada is just nutz so I was lucky to get the LR model for the price that I did. Pretty sure PowerfulUK is much more palatable for the local market!
