all my lights work as normal except the fog light when the trailer is connected.

If you have a black 7 pin socket then the fog light should work not the reversing light which should work with the gray socket.

confused now if there are two earths (which you show there are) then what is missing from two 7 pin plugs? Common sense isn't very common.

We can forget about the 13 pin wiring as it’s not relevant to my original question. My reason for asking was to see if I could find a power source that’s live when reversing except when the trailer is attached. So the next possible source would be power to the rear parking sensors which do switch off when the trailer is connected. The parking assist ECU is powered from fuse FB1 in the rear fusebox. If I were to hook up a fly lead to FB1 would it only be powered when there was no trailer attached? In other words, is the cut in power to the parking assist ECU when the trailer is attached before or after the fuse? |

There are three earths in a 13 pin socket: one for constant power, one for ignition switched power, and one for the road lights. The 12N has one earth for the road lights and the 12S has one earth for both power circuits plus the reversing light. Edit: The post 1998 12S has two earths - one for permanent supply and one for ignition switched supply and presumably the reverse light earths through one of these. |

The PDC module in on the CAN , so the rear is switched off electronically inside the unit when the trailer is connected. I'm pretty sure the front PDC remains active when the trailer is connected, so the fuse can't be switched, or the front PDC would stop working. What are you wanting to achieve? That makes some sense, however it will be easier to simply wire it up to the reverse lights, so it works wherever you're in reverse.
