Folding wing mirrors

Just found out today whilst cleaning the car that if your Mirrors are folded forward - ie to lube them - then when you lock your doors so the mirrors fold in, the mirror folded forward it will right itself automagically and the motor will continue untill the mirror is fully folded in.

Pretty clever I thought Smile Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Do you mean you tip the top of the mirror right forward to lube behind? Mine are a bit clunky so was going to look at some maintenance but wasn't sure the best route.

I think he meant that if you push the complete mirror casing forwards (like you do to lubricate the folding mechanism), then when you remotely lock the doors the mirror will fold itself back to its 'parked' position without you having to push the casing back to its normal position first. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

Silicone spray is advised on here and it is better and longer lasting than WD40.

England 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Manual Santorini Black

Hi all, new here,
I put my handsome FL2 Sport LE through the car wash yesterday (as my daughter wouldn’t allow me to take her to her prom with it covered in mud 🤷🏼‍♀️), I folded the wing mirrors in using the L+R buttons together. When brushes were cleaning back to the front of the car, they pulled both mirrors out and then backwards. Pretty cross about that, but then as they went past again, pulled the casing off the passenger side one giving the electrics a good soaking.
Now when I lock the doors using fob, the mirrors don’t fold in, and not sure if it’s related or not, the drivers door doesn’t lock. I have to lean through, lock it, then lock car with fob else the alarm goes off.

Any suggesting?
Also how much is a new wing mirror in Santorini black? If I ca get car wash company to repair, I may as well have a new one.

Cheers!!
Joy.

The mirror units are not cheap... swmbo had one broken by a close encounter with an oncoming driver. From memory LR sell them as 3 parts - the case, the glass & the cover & my recollection is the combination of parts is around £600? - then you need to get the cover painted as they no longer sell them in body colour, only in primer!

I'd take the car to a LR dealer, get them to provide an estimate for diagnostics on the lack of folding plus cost or parts & labour to replace then take that to car wash company & watch their face!
