2010 freelander 2 hse automatic with 160000 on the clock

We hitched up the caravan for a weekend away and 20 miles into the journey it felt to be lacking power, very slow away from junctions & roundabouts and any incline would just kill it to a snails pace. There was no strange sounds, no juddering and on a flat road I would be able to get to 50mph but the problem was still there. After stopping in a lay-by and revving the engine it would not rev above 3000rpm. I lifted the bonnet and nothing looked untoward so it was slammed shut, on starting back up it would rev just fine and I thought maybe it had reset itself but after a quarter of a mile it was back to the same again. We took the reluctant decision to turn around and get back home rather than keep going and risk total failure. There are no error codes on the dash, maybe fuel starvation somehow???

The fuel filter is a prime candidate. There can also be splits in the pipe work from the turbo. Just because you can’t hear it, it doesn’t mean there aren’t any and at 160000 miles I’d be looking at inlet pipes. Driven through any standing water recently. Water has been known to get into the air filter box, saturate the filter which then collapses restricting airflow. So have a look at the air filter. It’s 4 screws and on top the engine. Easy to check.
