LPG being phased out by 2024........

......... due to "INADEQUATE DEMAND" !!! Rolling with laughter
So there's less demand now, when petrol prices are so high. Apparently. But bottled gas, used for camping and for overland vehicles will not be pulled from petrol station fore courts.
The lpg filling points are to be replaced with electric charging points.
Bit of a Censored if you've just paid for an LPG kit to be installed.

There's an LPG station by me that just sells LPG. It's ALWAYS been busy. Not just members of the public, but taxi drivers too. I used to have to wait in a queue back in 2007 when my F1 V6 was gas converted.
Maybe they'll remain open as they seem to be independent from the main petrol stations.

That's going to hurt.

I have 4 x Safefill 10kg propane cylinders, when we have a family BBQ I can chew through 30kg+ of Propane.
30kg of propane @80p a litre works out at £59 - the advantage being you only pay for the gas you use as you can top it up rather than swap out.
I would easily use 3 x 13kg Calor at £50 per refill.
The bad news is that at high flow rates you can't get the last kg or two out as it freezes in the bottle so you end up using and paying for 4 Calor Bottles. £200 !!

BBQ is 18kW - 1.3kg/h
Firepit is 22kW - 1.6kg/h
Patio heater is 16.5kW - 1.2kg/h
Baby BBQ is 3kW and uses the bottles that only have a bit left in - it only uses 0.2kg/h

When the Mrs was alive we would host the family BBQ every month through the Spring, Summer and early Autumn- her Sisters & Mum would come around and between them sort out the accompaniments, I just sorted out the alcohol and meat. Started cooking around 2pm, finished drinking around 1am. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

It's MFG who are phasing it out.

https://www.petrolprices.com/news/mfg-is-p...orecourts/

There will likely still be a limited number of sites that aren't MFG or Shell that will have LPG, but the number will be tiny. Current driveway contents:
2021 V60 Cross Country B5
2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

The Shell petrol station near me has already reduced the number of LPG pumps, going from 2 to 1 last year, at the same time they added 2 new 150 kW BEV chargers.
Apparently there's little demand for LPG, and the regulatory infrastructure is much more complicated than standard petrol, so presumably more expensive maintain tok.
I can see a point when LPG is gone, along with reduced petrol and diesel pumps, all being replaced with higher profit earning BEV chargers. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Forget the gas, think of the meat for 2 dozen vultures - I mean family members, and they never seem to bring enough wine. We did it for maybe 15 years, it really really made Gill happy, especially after her younger brother suddenly passed away in 2015 - you suddenly realise at that point just how important family are. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Morrisons have 339 filling stations across the Great Britain. According to Safefill, just 71 (21%) of them stock Autogas. There are three Morrisons stores in our town, none of which have Autogas and two sell/exchange Calor cylinders. As their filling stations are refurbished LPG will vanish because, as with supermarket retail space, every square foot has to pay its way but…

Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, the US private equity company who recently acquired and now own Morrisons lock stock and petrol forecourt, also own Motor Fuels Group (MFG). CDR has said it is willing to sell 87 MFG filling stations to appease the Competition Commission (Offer accepted it seems) and thereafter, Morrisons forecourts are likely to be wholly subsumed into MFG.

MFG have said quite clearly that there is no place for LPG (Autogas) in the future and it will be entirely removed from its forecourts by 2024.

The future is not bright for Autogas / LPG.

Never used lpg for a car but it made big V8s seem almost feasible. Toyed with the idea of a Japanese import Disco 2 V8 at one stage. Guess there's a few people who'll be offloading petrol guzzlers. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I've had two range rovers, a disco and a 110 all with 3.9 lumps and running on lpg, also in the family were two ford fiesta's and a maverick, a volvo v50 t5 and a v70 xcountry all on lpg, saved a fortune over the last 20 years.
If worst comes to worst at least i will get the boot back. Common sense isn't very common.

Until 2024? Probably.

For all those leisure vehicle users with underslung lpg tanks or self refill cylinders lets hope it doesn't become as difficult to find as unobtanium.

There is a very real possibility that Morrisons will have to sell 20% of their forecourt’s . Their recent acquisition led by the venture capitalists who own the U.K.’s largest independent fuel retailer has led to competition issues . It’s only Morrison’s that are keeping the pricing around here honest . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

2016 Subaru Outback SE 2.0 diesel SE Premium Lineartronic Sold 2024 after 8 years and 80k miles . Best Car I ever owned !
