EML on ignition. Help? Confused!

Hello!

I've not long owned my car, a 2007 2.2 TD4 HSE manual, and I noticed today that the engine management light does not illuminate when you turn the ignition on.

I thought this must mean someone has tampered with it, but having viewed a couple of YouTube videos of people starting their Freelander 2s' they didn't have an EML on ignition either.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Cheers Smile

Steve

Mine comes on after about 1 sec for 1 sec then goes off. Engine symbol top of left dial between the oil and seatbelt symbols.
This is with the ignition on only no engine start.

Mine shows the EML during starting.
My understanding its now an MOT fail if it doesnt show - as, like you say, its an indication of tampering.

My FiL bought a cheap Corsa - no EML showing on startup - somebody had slipped a piece of cardboard in front of the bulb. Luckily solved with a new oxygen sensor - 30 mins work. Jules

Action shot during starting - hence the tachometer spinning up into the red.

I've done some digging and it looks like the EML is only taken notice of on an MOT on a diesel car if it was registered after July 2008, so I'd be okay there.

The funny thing is though quite a few of the F2's I've watched on YouTube don't display theirs on ignition/start either, and having done a little bit of digging it seems that early Discovery 3's and L322 Range Rovers' don't either, so I'm a bit confused.

On the pre-facelift Ipack, the EML or MIL is just that, a Malfunction Indicator Lamp, so only comes on when there's an actual malfunction, which I proved myself 3 weeks ago, when my crank sensor failed at 70 on the A30. The engine went into limp mode, the MIL came on and displayed REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE on the LCD. Big Cry Thumbs Up Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE. Gone.
