Roof Bar Options / Query

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked before. Did a bit of searching but couldn't see a direct equivalent question...

I need to get a roof rail fitting kit for our 14 plate F2 (non-sunroof). It will only be used for carrying relatively light loads such as a roofbox/bike racks. I already own a set of Thule aero bars and associated feet/fitting kit that I use on our Volvo V60 so ideally I'd like to re-use the same aero bars to save buying/storing more.

Our F2 doesn't have the integrated front to back roof bars fitted already. I notice that Thule offer fitting kits for both options, with and without the integrated bars. Question is... is there any point me buying and fitting the integrated front-back LR roof bars and then a Thule mounting kit to go with them? Or am I just as well going for the Thule option that just clamps straight onto the roof?

Looks like the aftermarket OEM style roof bars are about £150 and £120 for the feet kit. So £270 total.

Or alternatively fitting straight to the roof it's £115 for the feet and a further £50 for the fitting/adaptor kit. So total of £165.

So an extra £100 to fit the permanent front-back bars... is there any advantage?

Cheers!

I have the Thule aerobars and feet which clamp directly on to the roof and they have been absolutely fine. Just buy the second set of feet to fit the Freelander. 2007 TD4 HSE

No real benefit to the roof rails, more cost and more work to fit. Current driveway contents:

2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

I made the mistake of buying the copy rails. Lost a badly fitting cap, the fixed cross bar have corroded. The B attachment to the rail was held on by a self tapper (probably the same for the originals). I had to do major modifications so the rails are structurally sound.

If you only need the roof rack occasionally & you don't have corrugated roads just use what you have.

Watch your payload up there. By the time you subtract the weight of the roof racks & box there is not a lot left. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Just an idea, I recently fitted roof rails and I have a set of Thule Aerobars which were on my work Octavia Estate and they appear to fit fine onto the non-LR rails, might be worth checking if your Volvo set will fit the LR roof rails (or OEM version) may be cheaper that way.

The Land Rover cross bars (at least I have these as originals, 2 pairs) have LR logo on the ends. If you pull out the rubber strip it has Volvo on the back. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
