Service by independent repairers

In 2002 the Official Journal of the European Communities published REGULATION (EC) No 1400/2002 http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUri...041:EN:PDF that - as far as the present topic is concerned - allowed car owners to have periodical car services carried out by independent repairers while keeping valid the official guarantee.

I took advantage of this opportunity on the occasion of the first service (and I paid 175 euro instead of 436).

Am I the only one? Rolling Eyes

Your not the only one to make the saving, a hand full of others have done the same

It has been discussed though that the service would not ruin your warranty if they use OEM parts etc

But also, your not going to be keeping up with the paint work inspection for the 5 year cover you have, unless a dealer inspects the paint. (this side isn't covered under the same directive, so it has to be a dealer job) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I never use a dealer service, I have a great independent near where I live who first used to service my company car 12 years ago. I've taken every car back there ever since, all new, all VW's, Audi's and Mercedes and he will get the LR too. Cheaper better quality work with that good personal touch.

Never once in 12 years had any cause whatsoever to complain.

I wouldn't just use any independant though, it would have to be one I knew and trusted.

When I have had a warranty failure I just take the car to the main dealer and tell them to fix it. None have ever tried to argue. 58 HSE, auto, lago grey, tints. Mine and my dogs Storm and Sky

I agree would never take my car to stealers, but I will go to authorised service centre for all my work, that way i get genuine parts, everything stamped in book, but at a fraction of cost.

If you dont have an authorised service centre in your area, i would say go independent but just make sure they know enough to do the job.

Nothing worse than having to go back to stealer & have them fix a c Censored ck up & end up paying twice. I think therefore I am

If we all want to retain the right to have our vehicles serviced/repaired by independent garages you should go on to the following website and sign the petition as in 2010 legislation which requires all manufacturers to provide access to the computer codes for our vehicles without which no technician can work on you car and in some cases even changing the battery requires the ECU to be rest.

Its in our own hands so go to www.r2rc.co.uk and sign.

Hi,

Just had the ist service done by Nene Overland at Peterborough £226 plus £20 for bits. I was quoted £467 by Pilling at Welwyn Garden City and £344 by Chipperfield Land Rover. Nene did an excellent job and loaded us a car for the day to go shopping and the wife spent what we had saved! Came back to a cleaned car and have checked and everything as far as I can see has been attended to. The warranty is not invalidated and will go back at 30000 miles.
Worth the travel.

have just booked mine in for 2nd service at indy.

Just checked with LR customer services first. As long as service details followed with genuine parts, no problems.

I have booked into essex 4x4 in Wickford, ex lr team, and so far they seem better than genuine landrover. Will follow procedure use lr software computers etc, and then print out and recipts of part...ps and clean car etc. Free pick up too.

Two weeks until service and will update opinion.

Best bit Lookers chelmsford 475, and this is 248 !!!

Do we actually miss anything by not going to the main dealer? I was wondering about things like software updates or non-recall warranty work

NP will probabley go on about paint/body work warranty-who has ever claimed on that??
but as long as you have it service in the scheduled time and milage using original parts by a VAT regd garage or mobile mechanic (as I do) you can take it for warranty work etc. at the dealer (as I did for a new gearbox on 25k miles and again for the heater recall) I save approx £200 per service

My dealer isn't the least bit funny about them not servicing the car, but then again they are expecting me to buy a RRS soon.

When I enquired about going independent the main dealer quoted £50 for the paintwork inspection to keep the warranty for the paintwork.

i am aware that the dealer would charge, I suppose if the independent is more that £50 (or your dealers charge) cheaper then it could be worth it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
