Hello folks.
Have noticed my front tyres, new Pirelli Scorpio,s fitted 8 months ago, showing signs of wear on the outside edges. Both tyres same. Is this a tracking problem I need sorted?
My steering wheel is slightly off centre. . No wobbling or anything like that.
Pressures checked ok.
Suggestion greatly appreciated.

Get a wheel alignment.

My car has been over thousands of km of corrugated, gravel & stone strewn roads & there aren't any issues with odd wear, & that's with a 500kg payload. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Get all four wheela checked then swop front to rears to even out the wear. I had four wheel alignment checked at 60.000 miles but was spot on ! also check shocks,balljoints, and bearings. 2013 FL2 XS.

You don't say the milage you've done in the eight months, however, tyre wear on the outer edge would most likely be due to excessive tow in. Best practice is when having new tyres fitted to a full alignment but as a minimum have the tracking checked. The Freelander 2 is a heavy vehicle and the type of driving can also have a effect, town/city driving turning corners will put extra load on the outer edge and cause wear as against driving in a straight line.

Try and find a tyre specialist who has a Hunter4 wheel alignment check. Your local chain tyre depot will only check the fronts. The rear have adjustments that normal cars don’t have. The Hunter system checks those too.

I live in a rural village but lots of sharp left and right turns and I stay in a cull de sac. So, every time I go out or come in I have to do a three point turn at the bottom.
Will get the four wheel tracking done.

By all means have 4 wheel tracking checked if not been done since new tyres fitted.

But, it's a big heavy vehicle so pushing round corners, especially roundabouts, will affect outer edges of front tyres more. On mine n\s was more affected than o\s.

As suggested in previous thread, swap front to back regularly to even tyre wear if concerned. Though someone is bound to say "don't do that". Andy

Did exactly what you are doing, a few years back. Bought an Sd4 HSE with standard 19" wheels and OMG was the ride as hard as nails compared to my previous TD4...too hard to live with. So I bought 2nd hand a set of 17" and fitted with brand new Continentals as per original spec for that size and they were a sheer delight for the next 39,500 miles. In 2019 I changed to Pirelli "all weather" and what a huge mistake! They wandered all over the place, every change of surface, and gradient, and white lines, were reflected in the direction of the steering wheel. I thought there was something seriously wrong and took car back for wheel realignment to the fitter and to another place for second opinion. All checked out as correct, so therefor it must be the tyres. Due to Covid and reduced miles the tyres are lasting forever but can't wait to get back to Contis for some straight line motoring. Hope that helps.

Had Continental's cross contact as per original spec fitted in 2016; did 39,400 on deliberately downsized 17" wheels, across the whole of europe, alps, pyrenees, etc. Fantastic tyre, secure, smooth, stable. Changed them in 2019 for Pirelly all season; what a disaster. Thought there was something seriously wrong with alignment or steering mech,, had it checked three times. Car wandered all over the place with every change of road surface, potholes, white lines etc. I could even tell the sex of a dead bird! They failed MOT after 23,000 and changed back to Contis in May. What a staggering difference; the car is immediately back to it's stable, secure positive self with no wandering issues. Speak as you find by Continentals are now my default tyre.

try slowing down for the bends that squealing is your tyres hanging on for grim death

More likely the last time it was lazy bu99ers who did it didn’t centre the rack correctly and just adjusted one side leaving the steering wheel “off centre”.

Most vehicles outer shoulder wear tends to be caused by plenty of cornering/roundabouts at slightly more than “slow” speeds, it soon adds up especially on a larger/heavier vehicle. Regards

As I said, lots of tight corners locally and plenty of roundabouts. I am not a hard driver.

Forgot I had this thread.
Update—— I had the fronts swopped for the rears when the car was being under sealed.
Then booked a 4 wheel alignment check with Kwikfit Paisley.
NS front was out a bit, rears perfect.
What really has happened is the the vibration/rumble about the 1800rpm has virtually gone.
Cannot even induce it. Coincidence?.

You will always get a bit of wear on the outer edges, as others have said, as it is a big heavy car.

The MOT only worries about the central 3/4 of the tyre passing the 1.6mm test.

Some tyres have marks to show what is the central part of the tyre, as my Goodyears do.

4 wheel alignment is definitely worth having done as it can cure some random faults.
