England 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
Flat Battery

Hi All

Had the car since January and had 3 x flat batteries (one since a new one fitted by Beadles sidcup last week) has any one experienced the same problem. LR assisit simpling jump it and off it goes for another few weeks.

All doors, interior lamps, lights etc have been checked and switch off.

HELP! Anybody had a similar problem?

ps due to go back end of May.

sounds like a faulty battery, or a software issue not closing down a system thats draining the battery

When i first got my FL2 i notice the satnav screen was staying on Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yes am going through the same at present.

LR assist guy was quite certain its a battery problem for me. He took some measurements and established that standing current once all systems had powered down was 30 milliamps which was about right. However he did say that one cause of flat batteries is that sometimes systems don't close down correctly and can leave a greater standing current which would cause even a good battery to go flat. In my case because the standing current is about right he's sure its a dodgy battery. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

I had similar problem with my brand new BMW 4 years ago now, dealer changed battery and it still went flat, offered to change it again but i demanded further investigation, turned out the battery was constantly feeding juice to the chassis!!

Hi there,
I have only had my FL2 for about 2 months. but over the weekend I woke up to a flat battery, Has your fl2 get the factory blue tooth fitted(se and hse stardard) because that's was the fault on my landyrrover?? on friday evening I drove home on the phone turned the engine off still on the phone plulled the key out dash and then finshed the phone call.And woke up to wrong shape battery (the bluetooth did turn off thus drained the battery in less than 24[ hours. Charged battery up fro a few hours and the landyrover started. But the instrument panel did'nt work so I pulled fuse 8 (5amp from the passaenger fuse box) which reset it self. and bingo landyrover working fine agian (best off luck John)javascript:emoticon('Thumbs Up')

I had a flat battery after the car was stood for 3 or 4 days.
LR Assist guy checked battery etc. and put a clip on ammeter on the battery lead while everything shut down, which according to him takes about 20 minutes.
He put it down to something going out of sequence during this shutdown period.
The car has since been stood for two and a half weeks while I was away and was OK. I checked the battery voltage before I went away and when I got back and it had dropped very little.
I am still wondering if it is going to happen again.

2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

Had the same problem with mine a couple of weeks ago. Landrover assist said is was due to a software fault not sutting down radio.
Took it to TH Whites in Swindon fault found to be a duff relay and not a software issue (for a change!)

As i was saying the Blue tooth is run through the radio system and it didn't shut down when I removed the key from the dash I did have car parked up for 2 week at the airport and it started ok after that.

Thanks all for the feedback

I reckon the bluetooth is an issue, I do remember talking on the phone after switching the engine off. But I can't believe it would flatten a new battery. The relay sticking on intermittently is another bet. I am going to amp clamp the battery before it returns to LR.

I'm not sure how much power the blue tooth use's, but an fully charged 80amp hour battery (which is fitted to my landyrover) with a slow drain of 2.5amps = 30 watts of power would fully discharge the battery in 32 hours. My motor had at least 24 hours of dicharge, which would of only left under a third of the battery power in the battery (not enough to start the engine from cold

feeling lucky ???

I am working away all week travelling by air. Car will be parked for 5-6 days, I wonder if it will start when I return or will the battery be flat again?

On recent performance I thinks its going to be a matter of luck .. watch this space .... Whistle Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

This could be a stupid thing, but don't let anything in the second 12v plug (the one in de back of the center console) as this one doesn't shut off. I had a phone charger (without phone connected) on it and some hours later needed power from another car. Embarassed I'm aware that most of you afready knows this, but it can be something that slip out our mind (or is this only happening with me?) Fl2 zermattsilver TD4 S man

only problem with leaving it in 24/7 is that the charger will fail prematurely as this happened once when i left a charger in whilst i went on holiday for a couple of weeks, car started fine too Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
