Insuring an imported car.

Anybody know the best whey/firm for this? Common sense isn't very common.

For what it's worth my son's partner is Irish and she imported her car (a Nissan Quasqhai) to the UK and had no end of problems with reregistering it and getting an MOT and insurance arranged and said never again and there was a £250 fee from somewhere. Part of the problem seems to be that the particular model/trim option for a different market may not fit a UK equivalent and so getting it onto the DVLA database is an issue. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Sorry i should have said it is already imported, has a reg number but not on the road yet. Common sense isn't very common.

I’ve just swapped insurers on my Subaru . My FL2 was insured via the site Sponsor A-Plan , and being extremely impressed with them I’ve transferred the Scooby over at renewal .

The big plus is you are speaking to a real life person at a broker who can discuss things with you , without the vagueness of a tick box exercise on a comparison site . Everyone I’ve ever spoken to at A-Plan has been first rate . They have also been competitive.

Give them a call you’ve nothing to lose and everything to gain . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

2016 Subaru Outback SE 2.0 diesel SE Premium Lineartronic Sold 2024 after 8 years and 80k miles . Best Car I ever owned !

2023 Toyota Hilux invincible X 2.8 Auto .

It really depends from where it's imported from, if it's to UK spec there's no problem for insurance, if it is from the EU you do need to know what spec it is, for example from Cyprus, Mercedes are to eastern Europe spec not EU, so from other areas there may be problems even if it's rhd my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I had a Mazda Bongo imported from Japan. The importer got it registered here in the UK as part of the deal. Insuring it was never a problem. Jules

It was supposed to go to Hong Kong, but the order was canceled, don't know if it actually went there then came back or stayed here, that's if it was made here. Common sense isn't very common.

I suppose you need to know whether it was a private import or a dealer import, if dealer then it will be export spec but if private and duty free (UK government servant or forces posted to HK) it will be UK spec and may well have had a UK reg before export, the Vin should give you all information.
As it has a registration what year is the plate, if imported the year of manufacture and plate years will differ, if privately cancelled import/export the plate and year should be within 6 months or so. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I believe it was built in 2016 and is plated as 2019, dealer not private. Common sense isn't very common.
