@Bogart - most likely the actuator motor - they often fail intermittently at first. There are two - they are cheap and easily removed from the latch.

Nope, that’s the first signs of failing actuator motor. They don’t have enough grunt to overcome the stiction of the locking mechanism. A bit of spray lube will temporarily overcome it, as you have found out. As jules has already stated, there are plenty of write ups about replacing the motors (his includes lots of pics as well), or the whole actuator if you so wish. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto.
