Smart Key

Had a strange one today
Backed car into driveway noticed camera hadnt displayed !
D-N-R-N-D-R etc but wouldnt show
Oh well leave it and see how it goes

Went to shut windows on car in the afternoon and Smartkey not detected notice comes up Shocked
Went and got the spare key same result
Pull key apart and the battery is 3+v

Off to Freel2 to search forums
From previous reports hard reset seemed the correct method

Disconnected both leads and shorted to each other back on and the Smartkey is detected OH and camera back up. Thumbs Up

Lost the auto up / down on my windows and have done the reset on them but only got the auto down to work. Rolling Eyes

Is this something that happens often? As heading away for 2 weeks with van and not sure I want to be having to do a hard reset sitting on a beach down south somewhere. Is it possible to this happen when the car is locked?

I.e. no access to battery to perform the reset? Shocked

Cheers

If the key fob won't open the door, there's a mechanical key inside the fob, may be a bit tough to pry it loose but it's in there.

There's also a plastic cover on the driver's door handle which is removable, there's a keyhole under there.

Also you can reprogram the windows. After the battery is disconnected it will revert to manaul up, where you have to hold the window button all the way up. Here's how you reprogram it...

You can also program the door locks to all open with one push on the fob unlock button: hold the unlock and lock buttons down for about 3 seconds and the indicators will flash twice.

This is another thing you lose when the battery is disconnected. It's useful if you have kids. If you're a pretty single woman who parks in dark corners after midnight, probably just want to leave it on the default which unlocks only the driver's side.

The lock is on the passenger side in OZ (RHD) Common sense isn't very common.

I have have had a couple of times the key not detected when trying to start the engine. I held the key up under the steering column as noted in manual. It worked. I checked later the battery, that was ok. Everything did resolve itself. So not sure why it happened. I did replace the battery anyway. Generally get them from Coles etc.

Have had the reverse camera spit the dummy a few times over the years, then it's ok.

PS. If your starter battery is getting old, you don't want to get stuck on a beach.

PPS. Everything being imported into Australia has major delays, if you need a new starter battery in the near future it may be worth grabbing one while you can. Freight costs at the very least will increase cost. I have had two parcels in recent months that have been returned to sender in USA as they can't leave there. I still want the goods, but looks like next year before I get them. At least it is not critical stuff. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Tried to start car nothing Smarkey not detected. Even under steering column

Car stuck half way across road
Any ideas as Easter weekend Not much chance of road side assistance

Cheers for the quick response
But the key won’t unlock lock Nothing
Dash display fades in and out. Strange

Rang RAC. And was waiting for them to come out
Pressed unlock on key And it worked
No idea why
Get the feeling the van being connected to the car is upsetting it somehow
Will see how it goes on the way home on Tuesday Remembering not to turn it off at all 👍
