Hi, you need a Split Charger. Google Split Charger, and you will find all you need to know, and suppliers of suitable units. The one you have quoted looks a little like it is powered by Snake Oil. The manufacturerers do not supply load charts and independant test data. |

Hi there is a charger etc on the van, just the bumf on it was saying that it could provide more electric to the battery for when on small sites with no EHU |

One cannot get blood from a stone. It would be cheaper to get a generator set to power the 240 volt citcuit. THe only other way would be to buy a large traction battery and inverter. |

I have been following this thread with interest and have read all the technical stuff about this product. Can't say I see the need for it when towing with a Freelander 2 which is euro 5. my car happily keeps the battery topped up and runs the fridge when travelling to a site or from one site to another. Our Van has a motormover, I can leave the van in storage for a few weeks and the standard leisure battery is still capable of moving the van to the car to be hitched up Am I missing something 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

One thing to bear in mind with devices like this is that the input current can be quite high but the Freelander 2 trailer wiring power circuits are only 15 amps. I bought a somewhat similar Votronic unit, i.e. a DC to DC charger, but its 20 amp input blew the fuse on the FL2 power circuit. |

We was thinking more if at a show or something it could put a boost in the battery by running the engine for a while. Easier then lifting a generator when you get older 😀 |

Out of curiosity, I contacted Sterling to ask about the current draw of up to 25 amps which far exceeds the 15 amp fused limit of the two power wires on the FL2. Their answer was that in fact they use both wires (and both earth wires) to supply the charging current where ordinarily only the constant live would be used for charging, thus doubling the charging capacity available. Clever! |
