P02E5 Engine Code.

Good morning everyone. Me and my partner own a 2010 FL2 XS with start stop and 144k miles on the clock. On Friday my partner was driving to work, stopped at a set of lights, engine turned off, then when she went to set off the car threw the EML on the dash. On Saturday, plugged my cheap-o OBD2 plug in and using the Torque app, got a code of P02E5. Just to rule out it wasn't a freak error, cleared it and continued running the car.

Put some miles on the car on Saturday, Sunday and my partner used it for work on Monday and all was fine, no issues and no EML on the dash. Then coming home last night, similar thing as to before, stopped at a set of lights, engine goes off, starts up when the lights turn green and the EML comes back on. The car is running perfectly fine with no reduced performance or running issues to note.

Would I be right in saying that things are pointing towards the throttle body stripping it's teeth? Is the car ok to use with the fact the EML isn't pinging instantly back on when I cleared the code? If it is the throttle body, would it be an easy job to do for an amature with a Halfords toolkit? Anyone in the Northamptonshire area want to earn a few quid and do it for me? Laughing Is there any guides people can point me too as there doesn't seem to be much on Youtube and the Haynes doesn't cover it from what I can see.

Thanks for your help once again. Bow down

Does/has the throttle body been making unusual noises on shutdown (other than the usual clicks/whines)?

Not difficult to change nor to find youtube videos.

From the searching of the code, I only found 3 topics and 1 of those was a double post. If you could link me to a few that would help.

No strange noises have been heard apart from the standard noise it makes when the engine turns off. I did see that video but from the quality it's hard to actually see exactly where things are. I don't tinker with cars all that often if I can help it so any guides, step by step posts or anything like that would gratefully help. Smile

Went out today braced to fix this myself and my partner even joined in on the fun. The height of the Freelander is no issue to her. Laughing

The biggest issue I found was trying to find the right angle to get screwdrivers and ratchets in. Also, trying to get my big hands in to grab screws and pull on the hose. My partners hands come in use on more than one occasion. Very Happy It took us a couple hours which I didn't think was too bad for 2 people that rarely work on cars. Very Happy

Here is the pictures of the old unit. Safe to say I don't think our time was wasted doing this job.

Also this video really helped. Start from 1 hour in for the throttle body:

Nice job! Looking at those pictures, are they now metal cogs instead of plastic? Anyone know why they are made out of plastic in the first place and not metal? Are they made to be a weak point so something else doesn't break?

Yes the cogs are now met alloy so should last forever.

Link below will give you more insight .
