Loud bang from front !

Just been out in the Freelander straight flat Rd and heard a massive bang from the front underneath !
On returning home I noticed that I could spin the front wheels in the wet , so I jacked the front up and tried to drive it and there is no drive to the rear and a loud grating noise like there is a snapped shaft rubbing together Big Cry
Could this be the IRD/ Transfer box ?
Sound expensive whatever it is Sad
Any ideas/ recommendations folks ?

Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Can it be the splines on the PTU shaft has worn out??

This text is copied from Bell Engineering`s website:

If the car is suffering from front wheel drive only, there are several possible reasons:-

The splines between the gearbox and front transfer box have stripped
The crown wheel and pinion have stripped inside the transfer box
The haldex unit has failed or been disabled
The propshaft, diff or rear driveshafts have been removed
You have bought the 2wd version of the vehicle

Just took it to the garage and he thinks it’s the splines between the gearbox and transfer box so he’s taking the T box out on Monday for further investigation ! Rolling Eyes MY18 D5 HSE LUX 😎

I read somewhere that Bell Engineering now have PTU`s with an upgraded spline connection available. Consider that if you need to replace yours. Look up his facebook page.
