Nice - virtually identical to my Metropolis, except I've got black wheels as well.

Couldn’t you arrange an AA / RAC inspection of the car? If the car is what it seems and the dealer is all above board (as I'm sure s/he is) then there should be no problem.

If you then decided to the car, try and negotiate the cost of the inspection off the price. If you decide not to buy the car then for a few quid, you may have swerved a costly money pit.

a good idea Reggie. I offered £12,500 for the car, garage said they would accept it.

i did however ask garage about service history they said :-

All 2014 - 2016 services with Taunton Landrover
2017 - 2021 - D.R. Autos (Bishops Stortford) Ltd
2022 - AA Motor Group Ltd.

i checked work done with DR AUTOS, they replied :-

the records we have for the vehicle WJ63KYF are as follows
01/03/21--4 x Tyres
10/02/21--Mot
28/01/20--Mot & Service
29/10/18--4 x tyres
11/04/18--Front & Rear Brake Pads
12/01/18--Service
31/10/17--2 x Tyres

We have no Record of the Timing/Cambelt being replace but we did advise it 28/01/20

interesting as the seller had told me originally that the belt was done, so I asked him when and where, to which he said there was no evidence other than previous owners word !

Obviously the two belt kits need to go on, as a minimum.

I find myself scratching my head about the frequent tyre changes.

MOT history is not bad - couple of fails on trivial things - empty washer bottle and a failed side repeater bulb - plus a couple of brakes & tyres advisories. Oh, and a couple of 'emissions too clean for test result' whiich sounds good. Nothing serious showing up in that history.

The car is more or less the same as mine in its less often seen Firenze with ivory Windsor leather - I haven't got the black side vents & boot handle trim but I think I’d like them Smile From the images, it looks to be in good order.

2017 two tyres - cheapo ditch finders to replace fronts with scrubbed outer edge/s???

2018 a nice new set of four tyres. A new owner perhaps who likes all four tyres the same - the annual mileage appears to have increased noticeably from 2018 with its last three years more than doubling the mileage of the first five years

2021 - two and a half years later, another four new tyres after the car had added 52k miles between its 2018 & 2021 MoT tests

All very speculative of course but perhaps not as bad as it seems at first glance…

well said Reggie, you saved me replying about tyres Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

I understand everyone has to make a living, and garages 'supposedly' only make so much on deals, having informed them of doubtful belt change, I have a reply which I can understand even though I am not keen on it :-

if I want to buy, we agreed sale at £12,500 rather than £12,900 . . . I didnt want to be too cheeky Very Happy Very Happy

they now say they will meet me half way on cost if new belts , ie they get it done and charge me £12,700
or I get it done and pay £12,300

like I said, I understand it with their margins etc, but it does not feel like as good a deal to me Big Cry Big Cry

I hope someone else buys car today and puts me out of my dilemma Rolling with laughter Mr. Green Rolling with laughter Mr. Green 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

I would personally fit a genuine belt and water pump, this is what i did with mine. However deal was different for me...i agreed to pay the difference between the non-genuine and genuine items and they covered the labour, It cost me £79 Thumbs Up

12300 seems like a fair price to me in current climate for an HSE Lux even with those miles on. Mine 63 plate Lux has 70k on it and is booking at 13k - 13.5k as a part ex price.
Genuine belts etc are going to be around £600 fitted at a garage so for under £13k you have the best specced FL2 available at a decent price IMO.
and sounds like the dealer the being pretty open about providing information which is quite rare these days.
