Td4_e start stop system

I was reading about something else and see a paragraph about the td4_e having a basic form of regenerative braking where it charges a capacitor to aid in restarting. Is this true?

Yes.

On that subject, should the cars main battery become low in voltage, the ECU will turn off this feature first to conserve power.

So how does the regeneration system work? What is driven when breaking to generate power. It wasn't clear in what I was reading but it seemed to suggest that the starter motor itself did the regenerative braking.

I just bought a 2009, 180k FL2 with this feature but it did not work worked. However, I recently changed the battery after I found it had an old and undersized battery. Since changing the battery, gradually, the stop start is operating more frequently. All seems a bit odd. It has highlighted that the vehicle is slow to restart. Suspect a lazy starter motor.

The capacitor bank is there to maintain voltage on the power rail, so the electronics get a constant supply voltage during cranking, not to power the starter. I remember reading that the starter engaged as the engine stopped to charge the capacitors, however there's no mention of this feature in the workshop manual, but it does mention the capacitors for supply line stability. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Does anyone know if this is fitted to all TD4_e cars or a certain spec level as to say or after a certain year? I was reading here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic70337.html that someone seemed to think it's just the alternator just doing some clever trickery by engaging and disengaging. I guess I'm very curious about all the technical, maybe insignificant details of a Freelander. Laughing
Anyone know if the regeneration works on coasting or if it's only when you apply the brakes? If a car has features I like to know how to get the best out of them if I can. Very Happy

The alternator is under ECM control anyway, so it's output can definitely be controlled, which would help charge the capacitors, providing alternator output during braking and engine shutdown, so the energy used to charge those capacitors is effectively free. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. Further to my previous post where I fitted a new full sized battery only to highlight a slow starting problem, ?I have fitted a new starter motor. This is much better; turning the engine over a lot quicker, resulting faster firing. Took about an hour at the same time as cleaning up the throttle body and installing a new intercooler hose to the throttle body.

I fitted a Denso DNS1208.
