Its quite easy to remove the ethanol from small quantities of E10 petrol; for use in old mowers etc.
Shake the petrol with water and let it settle. The ethanol/water mix can be drained from under the petrol. Some food colouring was added in this pic to indicate how much the volume of water had increased as it took up the ethanol.

just wondering whether to go back now and get rear done as they are the same batch of wheels I got in June

I would not have expected wheel unbalance after such a short time since fitment, unless you had lost a balance weight off of a wheel.

Rears should be ok, as long as you cannot sense other problems. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)

Recent trip France to UK of around 670 miles returned ( actual not computer ) consumption of 41.3 mpg, mainly motorway, 80mph in France 70mph in Uk, just me and not a lot else in the car. 2010 TD4, 150k miles, dodgy transfer box😉.

You managed exactly double the mpg I got on last French trip, 2000 miles at 20.5 mpg. I was towing nearly 2 tons of caravan with 4 bikes on the roof of the Freelander though. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Not surprising really! I did the same trip a while ago with my 1.5t builders trailer on, with about 1t of load, returned just under 30 mpg, so your numbers are probably not that bad !
I did balk though when I filled up to leave, car was pretty low on fuel, but put an amazing 104 euros in the tank, another 69 euros in at Calais ( fuel is still marginally cheaper in France than UK ).
Last flight I took, a few weeks ago, Limoges to East Midlands was €4.99 !!!!!!!!!!

According to thermodynamics a heat engine should be more efficient in cold weather as energy extracted depends upon the difference between combustion and ambient temperature.
This was apparently quite noticeable with steam engines. Just saying Very Happy .

That's the engine.

The chassis and drivetrain is less efficient in the cold.... all the moving parts and grease and oil take longer to warm up so more viscous lube and tighter tolerances yield more friction losses. Same effect for engine-driven accessories.

Also a biggy is air density at higher speeds... cold air will cause more drag.

Net result is that a vehicle will get better mileage on a hot day, all else being equal. Especially at higher speeds or shorter distances.
