2007 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Santorini Black

Cooling fan stays on

Hi
I have a Freelander 2 2007 TD4.
The cooling fan stays on all the time even with the engine off. It is only the bottom fan that stays on.
It seems to have started (I think) after I did an oil change. Which in the process I had to move the fan controller out the way to access the oil filter.

Any help would be great, thanks

I would suggest checking all connections on the fan controller module and harness and reconnecting it, also replace the fuse that controls it. You can also try a hard battery reset (do a search on this site). If that doesn't work, I'd try a wrecker for a replacement module as I am not sure if the controller is sold separately.

^^^ If that doesn't work, look up the cooling system in the shop manual.

There may be a temp sensor on the radiator or nearby plumbing... if that got damaged that might cause odd fan behavior too. Probably easy to test it in place with a meter (test cold, and then warm up the vehicle to test hot).

FWIW I've never needed to move anything fan related to change the oil filter on the TD4- but a flexible ratchet spanner is essential. Jules

Had the reverse of your problem. Corroded wire breaking the circuit. Could be possible you have a short that is providing constant 12v tot he fans. Could also be a faulty sensor as said.

Check the fan module control wire, think it is a small violet wire. I can cause issues with the fans if broken or grounded out. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.
