United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Ipanema Sand

Pleased to report I'm now an FL2 owner ๐Ÿ™‚Got it booked in for a once over with a LR indy next week so hoping there's no surprises. I'm really chuffed with it so far, it's my first LR and it's unlike anything I've had before. It's the HSE so it's well specced, feels Its lovely to drive and although I know it's probably not completely accurate it showed 44mpg for my 65mph commute up and down the M18 today. One little concern I have is that it has a full main dealer service history for every year up until 2018, then LR Indy's up to this year. None of these services are logged at LR online. Is that unusual?
Cheers Dave.

Much more importantly has it had :
1) Cambelt & water pump and associated pulleys changed
2) Have the oils in the rear diff and front PTU been changed.
3) Has it had a full haldex service - oil & filter changed plus pump filter cleaned.

That's what I'd want to know if buying an 11 year old car.
I see you stated its done only 22K - almost unbelievable - but the JLR service schedule should confirm.

Unfortunately the JLR servicing schedule is insufficient for these vehicles, especially the haldex unit. Every other manufacturer that uses haldex recommends regularly servicing approx 30K miles depending upon application. JLR's approach is , in effect, leave it till it breaks then buy a new one.

AFAIK Only garages which sign up to the JLR on-line service recording can access it. I presume JLR want ยฃ for that.
I didnt bother with once the the warranty was up. Jules

Indy services will be every bit as good, if not better than LR.

Hi and well done Thumbs Up

not sure a 2010 car has the on-line history Question
but you could always phone the dealer to check the history if it was the same dealer each year, when I bought our FL2 (2013) it had the service book stamped up by the same supplying dealer and all receipts for work done, I phoned them to check and the dealer even advised what had been done under warranty (the clutch) and when the discs ect had been replaced Very Happy

did you check about the belts and stuff Question

There are rules as well, as Bob says Photos........ no photo then it didn't happen Whistle

Thumbs Up .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

๐Ÿ™‚ I've emailed the main dealer earlier today for exactly that. Unfortunately not able to find a wind swept moor for a suitably atmospheric shot in daylight just yet so here's a murky one in the car park.

Nice and clean looking.
I hope you have as much fun and stress free motoring as we have had with our three FL2s. I shall keep my current SD4 for as long as I can. No idea what we would get next - the world of cars is changing rapidly. Who knows what will available in a few years. Jules

My MY10 car (November 2009/59 plate) had a service book - whether its service history was recorded online as well, I donโ€™t know but my current MY13 car has no service book.

For the first time since new, I went to an indy for its Year 8 service - the indy updated the online service history and when viewed, the only difference between his entry and the previous main dealer entries is the little green oval logo is missing on the indy's entry.

To be honest I aggree with Jules I dont think JLR servicing is up to much, I think they take your money for not doing very much I now give it to our HGV Mechanic I can watch him do it and I know its ALL been done. 2013 FL2 XS.

Just had a call from someone who I used to work with.
He was looking at a FL2 for his wife (good swap)and had the option of two:
1) 2013 dealer serviced less than 25,000 miles.
2) 2013 serviced by ANother less than 50,000 miles.

My advice was option 2. I explained that dealer servicing was the minimum that should be done, haldex, gearbox oil, diff oil and PTU oil were "fit until it dies" at the dealership, but any specialist independent would check if not replace all the oils based on mileage AND age. I was also suspicious that a diesel that had only done 25,000 miles in nine years would be staring down the barrels of a coked up engine / EGR

Fairly sure I will be getting another call as soon as his wife hears a funny noise, or the car doesn't perform like her old eurobox. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Thanks for the replies once again. I'm unsure as to what exactly had been done to it in the past. There is a service book full of stamps but no other paperwork/invoices etc. I'm still waiting to hear back from the main dealer and will be getting in touch with the two indy garages that did the last three services. As I said before I'm not particularly mechanically minded, the 2 stroke on my BSA Bantam was about my limit, but the engine feels and sounds as if it's running really well. Would any issues caused by low mileage be detectable? Cheers Dave.

Any engine that was/is used for short journeys will not reach full working temperature a tell tale sign is "mayonaise" under the oil filler cap and in the rockerbox on top of the engine, also indicative of infrequent oil changes, if the oil is clean then that is a good sign its been changed regularly. 2013 FL2 XS.

Thanks Rommel. Don't think I'm going to know for sure until it's had its check up next week but just had a quick look and the oil filler pipe is so clean it could almost be new (which worries me). I'll stick a picture up tomorrow.

I wouldn't stress too much about it. Fix any niggles if and when they occur. You have bought a very clean very low mileage car which should give you many years of service. I wish mine was back at 25k miles again but having said that at 86k it still feels every bit as good as when I bought it at 17k. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

You could send an oil sample out for analysis, that should show anything like serious bearing wear. You'd need used oil for that, ideally at the time of oil change and you'd want to know the mileage on the oil being sampled.
