Will an intermittent boot lid switch set off the alarm?

Freel2,

The weather is mild where I live so I haven't replaced the switch to open the rear hatch. (it is 14 years old)

I realize that this is a common failure point.

The other night the Alarm went off and after clearing the alarm and starting the engine a Tailgate Open (or something) appeared

Opening and closing the Tailgate cleared the fault and it has been all good since.

It is possible that my daughter didn't properly close the tail gate.

But it is also possible that a faulty switch is to blame (i.e. the Bonnet switch which I haven't replaced)

Let me know you advise.

For reference the boot opens 100% of the time using the handle

Thanks

Paul

I replaced my tail gate switch, from recollection, the LR dealer part was quite reasonably priced. My symptom however was the remote would open the tailgate, not the physical switch and, when operating the vehicle the tailgate could actually delay open as well as flash the message during operation. Changing the switch solved everything. The replacement switch was an upgraded design to avoid the aluminum part of the switch from corroding.

Yes, the boot/hood switch will trigger the alarm at random while parked, I replaced mine several years ago been fine ever since Easy to replace, but it's not a very robust part so may have to do it again eventually.

You can also just jumper the terminals of the lead to ensure it never comes back.

Syfl2 and Merlin,

That is exactly the information I was looking for

I will get the switch for the rear hatch and either bypass the bonnet switch or get a new one

Thanks

Paul
