I should have updated last week but other more pressing Freelander issues (water dripping from drivers A pillar and a broken bracket on the exhaust where it joins the Turbo.. ) took precedence....

It was the bloody bulb. Both filaments were unbroken but the glass was showing signs of heat.

It looks as if you have triggered the Exterior Lighting Protection for that overheating side lamp.
On the FL2 each lamp is individually controlled via a FET (Field Effect Transistor) by the CJB.

See note from Manual below --

Circuit Protection

Two 60 Amp fusible links in the battery junction box protect the power feed to the CJB LH and RH lighting circuits
respectively. All exterior lighting circuits are protected by Field Effect Transistors (FETs), located in the CJB, which can
detect overloads and short circuits.

The FETs respond to heat generated by increased current flow caused by a short circuit. On a normal circuit this would
cause the fuse to blow. The FETs respond to the heat increase and disconnect the supply to the affected circuit. When the
fault is rectified or the FET has cooled, the FET will reset and operate the circuit normally. If the fault persists the FET will
cycle, disconnecting and reconnecting the power supply. The CJB stores fault codes which can be retrieved using a Land
Rover approved diagnostic system. The fault code will identify that there is a fault on a particular output which assist in
fault detection.

The lamps, like most other things on the FL2, respond to lots of signals. (i.e. not to just the power switch) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Thanks for the explanation - I am constantly amazed by the complexity of these vehicles.

My other LR has a total five fuses.....and that's it.
(it doesn't have heated seats though so you win some, you lose some I guess.... )

I know someone with an older Disco and if a rear light or stop light blows he gets all kind of weird messages like traction control unavailable etc.

It's doing it again....
I've just chucked another bulb in but I obviously have an issue with that one lamp overheating.

Any suggestions from the electrically biased brains out there..??
