Hi I have a 2008 diesel auto. I have noise like a dry bearing, it seems to change note with rpm, and comes from in front. It only happens with the engine up to temp and kicks in only when the engine cooling fans kick in, which they do for 10 seconds or so every 30 seconds or so. It can only be heard at slow speeds or when stationary, probably because that is when the fans are needed. It does not happen with the heater and aircon turned off.
Lastly, I can only hear it from inside the car, I cannot hear it with my head under the bonnet.
Any ideas.

Have you thought about the Alternator Pulley.

The AirCon will automatically bring the Fans on, and the that will give extra load on the Alternator and its drive.
The pulley has a one way clutch which, if it is failing, causes the drivebelt to oscillate.

I cannot hear the fans coming on from in the car. It's only from sitting at tickover that I realised that's When the bearing type noise cuts in and out.
As for the air con clutch, good suggestion, I only ruled out because it also happens with vent system in Econ mode. But I suppose the clutch, although disengaged, will still be spinning.
I will try vent system off then load the alternator using lights. See if that produces the noise.

If the bearing noise is only there when the fans are running, then it's likely a fan bearing at fault.  Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I have the same problem, mine is not the fans as unplugged them and it's still there but does stop as soon as the aircon is switched off.

So something on that belt probably. Has the belt tensioner and running gear ever been replaced?

How about the alternator and PS pump? Although in my experience the PS pump failure mode is a leak (PS fluid reservoir needs to replaced periodically since it has a built-in filter).

I don't think it's the fan bearings because I cannot hear it with my head under the bonnet.
I'm not sure about the belt tensioner..

I had a rattlly noise. Turned out to be Aircon low on gas causing pump to make noise. regassed and noise went away.
Aircon was working, though worked a lot better after regas. Andy

Recharging the Air Con Gas for noise has been on forum before after a grumpling/grinding noise.

Yes gas was low, when this noise started back in the summer. I've had it regassed but no change.

Today I tried switching all climate control off and loaded the alternator using lights and seat heaters. I could not get the noise in this way..

It could of course be the heater fan. But I can hear the heater fan running and it sounds ok. Also the noise is not changing with the speed of the fan. When the cooling fans start the noise starts. The noise also rises and falls in pitch with engine speed.
