At least she didn't have to lie on the roof of the car & reach down to manually unlock it & reach back across to the other side with a stick to open the driver's door. Could have been embarrassing! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Yes car goes into deep sleep after 28 days with no use regardless of the state of the battery charge, and has to be opened manually. If the car is left for long periods and the lock is on the passenger side don't park with that side flush to a brick wall !

I have not had this issue but it's good to know that a long drive after getting the vehicle open appears to rectify the keyfob problem. It's also good to know that you have no parasitic drain issues as 'she' started up immediately after 30 days of inactivity. |

Had a similar issue with a Ford CMax, possibly same ford software coding.

Motion, I think you are aware of of this but this is likely not true for everyone that will read this. Full disclosure - My Bluetooth Module is disconnected and bypassed - My Satellite radio module is disconnected and bypassed (Applies to North American spec only, not fitted on others) These modules are know sources of Parasitic drain so disconnecting them likely helped Thanks Paul PS I am going to post some information that you will likely find interesting in response to Shiggsy |

Ian, That is a great read. However I am trying to get my Daughter to learn the talents of a misspent youth. Where I come from we would say that you swung the bat a bit too hard (Baseball) A better analogy for the UK might be "The was a hell of a kick, past the pitch, over the stands and into the car park" We need to keep this at the beginner level not the master class. Thanks for sharing I am still laughing about the "Dish Soap Solution" Thanks Paul |

Shiggsy, I went looking in the workshop manual and I found something that substantiates one of your assertions. - Periodically unlocking and locking the car doesn't reset the timer
I can't find a reference to the 28 days However lets assume that the CJB stores the Rolling Code in the key fob and that it only stores enough codes to work for three weeks. Then on the fourth week the key fob is out of sync from the CJB and it doesn't work. I will need to test this hypothesis with the spare key FOB. Thanks Paul |

Andy, That's very sound advice. Where I live the climate is mild so the mechanical lock worked fine after 14 years. Take care Paul |

It's all very well not parking up against a wall, but a lot of garages are too narrow. We have a guide so the car can get as close to the wall as possible without scratching it, so I can actually get out of the car.

Good to know about this, my daughter also might take the LR2 to college. But also LH drive here so the manual lock should be accessible. Axle's RH drive dilemma was an entertaining read, although it didn't seem funny at the time I'm sure.
