Exactly the same battery I fitted to my 2014 earlier this year (Manual so IS Stop/Start (but 1st job on starting the LR is to switch it off, same as we do in our Honda!)) - I had no need for any programming besides the window reset procedure which only involves the door window switches.

My 2014 SD4 didn't have an AGM battery when new. I replaced it a couple of years ago with another non-AGM one. It doesn't require any re-programming. Running the AGM is not an issue - just unnecessary as you don't have start/stop. Jules |

I use a small - 22Ah - AGM battery in my car trailer and it has a different charging profile to a regular lead acid battery. My CTEK charger has a different setting for AGM and charges at a slightly higher voltage than for regular lead acid. So would the charging system in a non stop/start car charge an AGM battery properly? |

Thanks for the input folks. I googled the part number of the original battery. It ended "SA" but Google found nothing much. I have tested with the engine running and the alternator is putting out about 14.7v which is about right for AGM so I'll see how it goes. |

even if a car does not have stop start,it may still be fitted with an AGM battery, due to the possible regenerative charging system |

Looking into this a bit further, the article linked to refers to replacing an EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) with an AGM one. EFB batteries are apparently lower tier alternatives to AGM in terms of performance and durability but require the same type of charging profile. So I don’t think that fitting an AGM to a vehicle not designed for it, or something similar, is going to be successful. |

Does anyone remember back in the old days when you could tip the battery upside down, remove the acid and filter it then wash out the crud that had formed in the bottom of the cells (and was shorting the plates out)? You could get another year out of a battery, it had a smaller capacity but as long as it started that was OK. Those were the days. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Typically how long does the battery last on the freelander?

I'd suggest you are on borrowed time AT1963, changed mine (was the original fitted to my 2014) earlier this year, ICE system was playing up sometimes & new batt fixed the issue
