Further to my wanted post (see https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic37525.html) I collected the i6 from Birmingham today. The return journey of 123 miles was smooth and fine, averaging 28.5 mpg. Just as good as my XK!

Once home the first thing was to give the interior a good clean. I then set to removing the side steps. That went well, though the three drop plate brackets each side have yet to be removed. I assume I need to remove the inner plastic finisher that runs along the sill to reach the bracket bolts.

The next thing was to remove the front and rear light protectors. That too went well, though I now need to fill and paint the holes drilled into the bodywork.

Before the light faded I also took off the tow bar hook, which will not be needed for the time being, so I shall pop that into the garage in case.

The car has been fitted with Jaguar E Pace 19" wheels, which are okay. The original 18" alloys came with the car so I had to decide which set to keep. Since my wife rather likes the dark grey Jaguar wheels, they are the ones that will stay. I need to replace the wheel centres with LR ones, though!

As a result of my efforts today I now have a set of side steps, a set of light protectors and a set of original HSE alloys all for sale. I'll make separate postings for them and post in the relevant forum section.

I collected the i6 from a lovely chap, who was a pleasure to deal with. He has had some good work done on the car, including a recent full service, gearbox oil change, cooling system refill, air con service and re-gas, as well as wheel alignment and a new battery.

The i6 engine is intriguing and so very compact. Not many cars have transverse six cylinder engines!

Finally, a couple of shots once I had finished those jobs.

Interesting you removed the steps. You don't really need them on a Freelander.

Forgive me, but i would disagree with your other half on the wheels!

Nice clean looking motor TRW999,
personally I would go 18" wheels, But that's me.
I like the Black wing vents, handles and d post too.

Haha, I see what you mean! I think the i6 installation is a lovely engine and if it weren't for towing duties and the subsequent fuel bills I would be sorely tempted. A rare, wonderful and powerful drive train. 👍

I'd have quite happily bought a 190 bhp diesel, but there's a number of places I'd like to visit that will soon have ULEZ
