Like the title says, I'm looking for advice on what to do here. I currently have 235/65/17 value brand tyres on my 2013 FL2 XS. The tread is near the of life, so I'm at a point where I need look at new shoes all round.

I want something that fills the arch a bit more. I've read on here that 245/70/17 will fit without problems (apart from the obvious speedometer discrepancy). So shopping around I've found that I can get 4 x general grabbers AT3s fitted for about £670.

However, I've also seen 19" 5 spoke velar alloys with 255/55/19 tyres fitted for sale on eBay for £695 with decent tyres.

My dilemma is which to go for. Does anyone know if the higher tyre wall of the 245/70s affects cornering? And does anyone who drives on 19s does that affect the comfort of the drive?

Any help or perspective would be greatly appreciated

I would check with the ebay seller that the tread depth is good all over and the readings taken are not just in the place of most depth, been there a couple of times when gone to buy and quoted 6mm but ends up 3 to 4mm when gone to collect.

Bear in mind that tyres harden with age, and second hand tyres will likely be a few years old,
and therefore less grip, regardless of tread depth.

As above a good idea to check the manufacturing date on the tyres before buying.

I have 245/70/17 and it makes the speedo more accurate...
Ride and handling is good, even whilst making progress - mind you a slightly higher load rating so stiffer sidewall which compensates for the extra height. 2000 Xei 1.8 gone
2004 HSE Td4 Auto, MT's, sump guard, sliderz - gone
2014 GS Man - AT's, Mantec Sump guard and tank guard, split charger in boot, towbar, work in progress...

Thanks to everyone who chipped in with advice on this. The consensus was to stick with the 17s... And that's what I have decided to do. Couldn't be happier. Ride quality is excellent, surprisingly low tyre noise and the wheel really fills the arch nicely.

Strictly no poodles allowed lol.

Took my freelander in for a health check this morning (all clear at near 180k on the clock!) and asked the mechanic about getting some 245/70s fitted but was advised it’s not idea especially with an auto with its gear ratios, abs etc. Quite keen to get the extra ground clearance without going down the lift route.

Any one with 245/70s had any issues or knows if this is correct?
