It is strange that when cruising, even uphill, your autobox temperature goes up so much...
Which are your last 6 digits from your VIN? There is a service action for cars up to 050392...

last 6 of VIN = 037255

After installing the trans oil cooler the trans oil temp only gets to about 85c.

It's the engine coolant temp that gets to 110c when towing up hill. As I say, it quickly recovers though when the incline flattens. out. Is there any way to see if the service action was taken?

Also talking about the first post where you said, in the "transmission oil temperature" section, that when back to town, the temperature can reach up to 115 degrees...
It's too much for transmission temperature.

Any dealer can tell you if the Service Action Bulletin Q059 or Q106 was applied.
Q059 is about the partial applying of TCC which in turn can lead to wear particles.
Q106 is also about TCC and has replaced Q059 which was closed in July 2010
A partial TCC apply will also lead to a lot of slipping and this in turn will lead to an increased oil temperature.

Q106 is good for Haldex and rear differential too, in order to minimize the diff bearing failing.

Thanks Alex for going to the time and trouble of writing this. I have to admit I didn't see it. But I will be checking with the dealer tomorrow. If these Service actions were not attended to it would explain some issues I have had.
The transmission oil cooler you recommended has helped a lot though.
When I installed it I used Valvoline multivehicle JWS3309 which seemed to be the correct spec ATF but it caused some shudder . This disappeared immediately it was replaced.
