Hi, just taken ownership of an F2 from a family member. Couple of small faults to sort out, one of them being the SRS/Airbag light periodically illuminating on start after initially going out as normal.

Having done a search and read a few posts I'm leaning towards it being the connector under the drivers seat as messing with the seat position seems to bring it on/help it go away... Given it's intermittent and seems a fairly common fault I'm hoping nothing too serious.

Am I safe to mess with the under-seat connector with the battery connected? With the ignition off? IE, unlock the car and start messing with it. Last thing I want to do is end up triggering the air bags! I was hoping to unplug and give the contacts a clean with IPA and re-assemble.

Also is it easy to get at? Not poked around looking yet...

“Messing” with any part of the airbag system is not recommended to be honest. Doing it with the battery connected is an even bigger no no. At the very least, disconnect the battery & don’t go near the system for another hour. You could also discharge the residual power by shorting the + & - leads (once disconnected of course) together, that is something else that can also be frowned on! (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

I have experience of 'messing' with seats with built in air bags. Bought a set of bmw leather seats to use as mancave seats. They have electric adjustable recline, lumbar etc etc. So when I put them on some frames I welded up the back rest of one of them was at the wrong angle. I decided I could easily make these seat motors adjust by supplying them with 12v from a spare battery and this plan worked well by trial and error finding out which wires made which motor move. Now naturally I didn't even stop to consider that there were bolster air bags inside said seats, imagine my surprise, as down on my knees in front of a seat and connected 12v to an airbag connector....😖
The resulting explosion scared the **** out of me and had my head been at the side of the seat when this happened I very much doubt I'd be here typing this. I laugh about it now. I 🤔 Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Suggesting a wiggle of the yellow under seat connectors which I believe are seat belt pre tensioner connections? With the ignition off. Posts seem to suggest it solved the issue for some.

Under no circumstances should you mess with the SRS with the battery connected any spike could cause expensive system issues, leaving the air bag light perminatly on. If that happens you would need a obd2 scanner cabable of interrogating the SRS system not your average diy one. As said above the battery must be disconnected (negative terminal first and last when reconnecting) before any work on SRS.

I'm guessing I'll then need to re-programme the 1-shot windows and radio settings etc upon re-connecting? It's a 2014 GS so not too many gadgets to re-set.

Window yes they will need resetting, radio no that will ge okay
