Scary and unusual

Bit of a strange one this, driving up the road, engine missed a couple of beats. Carried on for a while then it completely died, no power steering nothing. Luckily just by a lay-by so managed to steer into it. After a few seconds I pressed the start button, engine fired up and everything normal. Drove home no more symptoms. Any clues would be appreciated.

Sounds like the CPS (crank position sensor) is on the way out. Easy & inexpensive to replace. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
171037Km as of 09/05/22
Superchips Bluefin Flash
Nanocom Evo II (also sold)
