Greece 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Hi Gav,
I have an auto, but I believe it works on both (have tried it with terrain response in General mode). Go on a steep slope, engage HDC, let the cluch a bit and the press the gas pedal. Your vehicle should stay still for a little while, giving you time to move forward. I assure you it works on mine, but LRO magazine have tried it with a manual diesel, so it should work with yours too. Let me point again the slope has to be more that 18 degrees. Hope you enjoy it soon. Thumbs Up

Still not working for me, I have tried all of the Terrain Response settings whilst the HDC is activated but still no sign of the GRC working!!!

For those of you that it works for can you tell me if you have an Auto or Manual???

Thanks

Gav

Just don't activate the HDC, then it should work? Why would you activate a 'descent' control when you want o go 'up' Wink

So far as i'm aware you have to switch on the HDC for the GRC to work at all as it's all linked together. My auto GRC definitely works. Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Stornoway Grey

Hi

I posted quite a bit, a while back on this, as it was something I thought would be really useful.

After many questions on here, with a couple of dealers and with LR themselves, my conclusion is that it is only on the automatics, not manuals.

I know this is stupid, as it is in a manual that you need to worry about 3 pedals, and slipping the clutch when doing a hill start, but hey, that's the way it is I'm afraid.

Best thing to do is, go and ask your dealer what GRC is, everytime I spoke to them I had to explain that it isn't the HDC, and tell them what it is. They'd then go and speak with people from Landrover asking them about it.

Another reason to buy an Auto next time then.

Rich

Can't agree.

Just checked mine on a steep bank today and it worked. I've a manual.

HDC must be engaged so either manually selected or Mud&Ruts on TR- works facing up and down.

Manual says a gradiant of 20% required to activcate and that is quite steep, equivalent to the steepest bits of Wrynose or Hardknott Pass in the Lakes. You don't find that in many places so that could be the issue

I hate to have to say this, but I hate you. Evil or Very Mad Don't take it personally. Laughing

I've tried lots to get out of Landrover if this should be working, as I could never get it working. I've tried it on the Hard Knot pass when there (maybe without correct settings as car was very new), as well as when off-roading at Yarwell, and couldn't get it to activate.

After many times with the dealer (they even drove it up a large pile of sand to test it, living in the Fens doesn't help testing GRC), and them saying that only the Auto had it and them showing me using my manual and their auto to compare (which didn't convince me, as the auto will hold itself on a hill if you release the brake). Then calling LR customer support, and the person putting me on hold for about 10 minutes whilst he found a techincal person to ask (mabye he was making a coffee instead) and them saying it was auto only.

I think I've decided that if it activated at something more like 10 degrees, it would be more useful, especially if you had to switch on HDC as well, so it didn't happen by mistake. That would be a lot more useful. Like you say, there aren't many on road hills at 20 degrees or greater, so can't be seen as a driving aid, just an offroading aid.

Wonder if something like the BBSPY equipment I've been reading about on the DISCO3 forum would enable you to change the activation degrees, that, I think would be something I'd be interested in, especially when we get a caravan and are touring round the Lakes and Yorks.

Not sure if anyone for LR themselves read this, but I would wonder if this kind of setting is jsut a variable, of it's hard coded into an inclinometer, so unchangable.

Your forgiven Chris, it isn't your fault, I don't think I ever fully believed LR, I just wanted to believe they knew what they were saying, and my car wasn't faulty.

I have at manual TD4 and haven't managed to activate the anti roll back yet. I did do it on a similar Freelander at the off road course but it was a very steep hill. The intstuctor advised it only activated if HDC is turned on - they had it engaged all through the course so it is really only used off road or on a really steep road there is a tilt switch which triggers the system.

Cheers

Just did an LR convoy day yesterday using my own car at the Dunkeld LR centre. The anti roll back does work - certainly was using the mud and ruts programme which automatically engages the hill descent mode. Managed hill starts I wouldn't have believed before. Instructor says it activates at 18 - 20 degrees slope.

My dealer yesterday told me that my Freelander does not have this feature (GRC) because it's a GS specification. Didn't say anything about auto or manual gearbox.

Thanks Dave,

It seems that my dealer wants to find the easy way out. But I still need to make the question: is it manual or auto yours? Question

GRC works on hills of 18 degrees (which is 20%, where 100% = 45 degrees), either forwards or backwards, and HDC must be enabled. --

I know HDC works on my manual. Don't quite understand how the anti-roll back works on the manual. Problem is mostly havng the opportunity to try. Can't do it on an offramp when cars are queueing behind now can I.
