Just bought a 56 plate TD4 HSE - thought the mirrors should automatically dip when you engage reverse - mine stay in the same place whichever gear. Manual doesnt help much on this front.

Anyone had any experience/ know how to reset?

Probably the rear positions haven't ever been adjusted.

Put your car in reverse, adjust the mirrors to whatever you want. Then store that position.
It should work then.

If you don't dip it and don't ever store it, it wont change.

The dipping mirrors form part of the memory seat feature on the HSE. I have a manual SE (with premium leather pack, which fortunately means I get the memory seats feature also) - if I recall correctly, just stick the car in reverse, adjust the mirrors and save to pre-set, and the next time you select reverse the mirrors should adjust to the desired reversing setting..., note if you go about 5 / 10 mph in reverse, the mirrors automatically go into the 'forward driving' position.

OK, so tried that - ie engaging reverse, dipping mirrors and then pressing 'store' 'preset 1'. Then engaged 1st, and did the same at a different angle, again, 'store' 'preset 1' whilst still in 1st. It still doesnt auto change between the two.

Any ideas, or is it a job for dealership?

On my BMW it had something to do with the mirror adjustment switch, i.e the switch that engages whether you wish to adjust the left or right hand mirror??

Yep, I have that on the BMW. Only the passenger side mirror dips in reverse, and only when the 'left-right' switch is set for the driver's mirror. When set for the passenger mirror, the mirror dosen't dip.

You need to get the dealer to enable or disable this function. You will probably find that the previous owner was like me and had it disabled and it drives me mad; unlike my last mercedes where flicking the mirror switch to the left when in reverse dipped the mirror, ie, on demand and not every time you hit reverse. What you can do is store your seat settings without the dipping in one memory and with the dipping in another.
That way you have teh best of both worlds.

By the way did you know that the storage is key dependant: if you use both key, eg one for you and the other for your partner, you can set the memory independant.

What I've done is used mem 1 and 2 for myself and 3 for my wife. My wife did the opposite.

You don't have to store the settings, on mine (HSE) it remembers the last position the left mirror was in when in reverse, and selects that every time you select reverse. I've never needed to store the mirror setting.

To change it, just change the left mirror position whilst in reverse. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE auto Tonga Green/Alpaca

I guess by now you may have found out the answer.
Both the automatic mirror dipping on reverse and the automatic door locking above whatever speed it is have to be set by the dealership. I only know this because when I bought my car I had to request these to be set. I also think that the time the front headlights stay on for "pathway night time illumination" can be adjusted by the dealer.

After this is set when in reverse adjust the mirrors to whatever angle you want and they will return to this setting when you next reverse etc. kooledude

Ended up taking it to the dealer, who said they would look at it under warranty (and told me that there was no 'switch' that meant it could have been switched off by previous owner). When I picked up the car, I was greeted with a bill for £100, and told that as it had been switched off by previous owner, it was not a warranty job to switch it back on.....hmmm. Managed to halve the bill by telling them that, if it had been something I would have had to pay for, I wouldnt have bothered.

My Dealer try that stunt... Its a standard feature on a HSE model... says it on the LR website. Therefore no cost!

No way i would pay for a standard feature to be switched on!
