Has anyone else needed to remove the rear seats entirely? I have to pick up the daughter from uni soon, and can only get all her stuff in if I can remove the rear seats. The squabs look to be really easy (4 torx screws) but the fixings for the backs are not as straightforward and the centre belt fixing will need to come off too.

Has anyone else done this please, and can you give me pointers to the minimum fixings to remove?

Also are there any airbag or electrical connections to worry about?

When I took mine in to the seat surgeons for a re-trim it took them less than 3 minutes to remove all seats and door cards. They just unplugged the front seat wiring beneath the seat and I don't recall any wiring under the rear seats.

I got my delivered with solve rear seats.
It isn´t airbags or electrical wiring connected.

If you lift the squabs up towards the front seats and drop the backs into the resulting 'hole' you get an almost flat floor and almost the same amount of space as taking the back seats out. Cant really see much extar benefit of taking the seats out (with the added worry that you may never get them to fit back 'just right' in the future)

Thanks everyone for the info and pix, particularly for the good news on connections and airbags. I know it seems an unusual request - I normally take my wife's C-max with the seats out (which are removable as standard) and I know how much extra space that gives me, but I want the comfort of my Freelander on the 1000 mile round trip. I know how to drop the seats down thanks Shilen, and I think I'll get a lot of extra space if I can just work our which of the torx screws under the base of the back to remove. I don't want to hear a clunk as the rear axle drops out . Any more specific info on the fixings would be really helpful. (Why don't they publish a reasonably priced workshop manual ?!)

If you have a tow bar you could hire a remork (don't know the english word, but I sure you know what I mean), but since you're wanting to remove the seats I guess you haven't got one.

Maybe you should have one fitted in stead of doing all that removing of the seats.

I would not remove them in fear of damaging them unless I really had too. Would take the C-max even for the long trip you've planned.

But that's just me.

I dont imagine there is anything behind sharing the same seat bolts, but I do not intend to find out. Personally I would take a chance if I where you, If seat removal is truly your only option.
I used to take my car seats out years ago for annual spring cleans, but things where simple then. On my VW polo I would take the seat runner stops off, the front seats slid back out of the runner and where easy to lift out. Then a few trim screws out and the whole carpet could be lifted out and cleaned.

My mate had and old talbot samba that needed its exhaust welding so we rolled it onto its roof on some straw bales, very easy to weld  At work
