crawl underneath, unbolt subframe drop it on chest and slide out on crawling board. Undo gearbox and repeat, probably not a good idea when your breastbone is held together with staples. Turns out the gearbox is heavier than it looks.

I was taking the gearbox out of a Skoda Fabia . It was such a tight fit that I ended up directly underneath it and I accidently let it slip on top of me despite a support from above. Shouldnt have tried to do it by myself. Got an injury to the brachial plexus resulting in weeks of paraesthesia and pain in the right arm.
Gearboxes are very heavy for their size. Jules

I always use an engine crane to lift the a gearbox from above. It makes removing and refitting so much less work, and limits the possibility of personal injury too.  Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
