To follow up on this thread, I was thinking I might do this lube HVAC bearings procedure semi annually (and lube the wiper mechanism as well). The winters here are brutal. Spring and fall seem like the perfect times.

Motion,

That makes perfect sense.

The grease in the bearing shouldn't be what limits the life of the fan, it should be the brushes which will eventually wear out.

If I can get to 20 years before my brushes wear out then I will be happy to replace the fan (and I will drill a hole or two in the new fan so that I can grease it in the future)

It will be interesting to see who is still active on FREEL2 in 10 years.

Eventually small items like the fan add up and then owners decide it would be better to just move on to something newer.

Take care

Paul

PS I have a battery operated weed trimmer and the bearing for that is making a lot of noise or it was before my spray can of lithium grease got close to it

I've never looked closely at a 2013 but it is unlikely that Land Rover changed the way air flows in the vehicle.

A change like you are describing is expensive and the customer is not likely to notice any improvement.

For my 2008 LR2 to get to the blower motor I removed them windshield wipers and the plastic panel under the windshield wipers.

Then I drilled a hole in the location shown and I added some Lithium Grease.

Good Luck

Paul

PS I checked a Land rover Parts supplier that I use

https://www.landrovermerriamparts.com/oem-...dhcw%3D%3D

And the blower motor is the same for all the LR2's and it is even used on the EVOQUE

Thank you for this. Let me have a shot at what you did.

Performed this hack today. Worked like a charm, whining noise gone.

Pretty easy, a little manipulating to get the cover in and out.

May want some plastic clips handy, in case you break any.

Needed an extension to get the drill in there, the fan cage is pretty deep into the intake duct.

The tube on my can of lithium grease wasn't long enough to get in there so I used a small bottle of triflow oil instead.

Be careful aligning the wipers when you re-install, they're not indexed. One of mine came apart when it hit the other one. I'd mark their position relative to the bolt. I tried to align the blades with the dirt line on the windshield but it turns out there's some play in the mechanism so that wasn't very precise.
