Any oil is better than no oil IMHO, correct grade can be put in when bearing is changed. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Agree with Bob, as a short term top up it should be OK.

Thank for the advice gents, it took about 1/4 of a litre till it ran out of the plug hole so it did need it, not road tested it yet so will report back |

A couple of Freelanders ago I had the diff bearing done and the next day noticed some oil on the driveway so I took it back to the dealer and they said that they had put too much oil in. From memory I think they said that it's quite common for the technician to empty a litre bottle into it but that only about 700ml is required, they siphoned some out and it was OK after that. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
