Rear diff top up with EP80?

Afternoon, as the title says I’ve got a litre of EP80 in the garage, want to check how much is in the diff, if it’s low can I use the EP80 as a top Up or will it cause further damage?

it’s due a replacement due to fubared nose bearing Anyway but I’ve holiday next week so don’t want to risk it if it will damage it further before my holiday.

Cheers

Any oil is better than no oil IMHO, correct grade can be put in when bearing is changed. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Agree with Bob, as a short term top up it should be OK.
80w90 GL5 is the recommended lubricant. Jules

A couple of Freelanders ago I had the diff bearing done and the next day noticed some oil on the driveway so I took it back to the dealer and they said that they had put too much oil in. From memory I think they said that it's quite common for the technician to empty a litre bottle into it but that only about 700ml is required, they siphoned some out and it was OK after that. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

That's just plain disturbing.
