2008 LR2/FL2 i6 coil packs

Anyone know who is the OEM manufacturer or the OEM part number? Or, has anyone replaced the 6 ignition coil packs with an aftermarket model that they are pleased with? I am working on proactive maintenance.

Motion,

The original coil packs are from Denso and they are made in Japan.

I couldn't fine a source for the coil packs so I purchased a replacement set in a nice blue VOLVO box

They cost $52.21 each x 6 = $313.26

For now the coil packs and new sparkplugs are just sitting on my shelf

I will likely install them in my LR2 when it gets to 150,000 miles

Assuming that my S80 doesn't need them first

Note: I believe that LR2 Mike replaced all his coil packs and all of his injectors at about 225,000 miles. He did this preventatively not because of a check engine light.

If you go aftermarket for the coils I recommend that you select a major brand (Delphi, Denso, NGK, BECK/ARNLEY, HITACHI, or similar)

Good luck

Paul

Motion,

Volvo continued to use the 3.2 until 2015 (maybe a little longer)

For my $$$ I would buy used coil packs from a crashed 2015 Volvo instead of getting low quality aftermarket parts made in China.

Note: if the cost of the used coil is more than half of the cost of a new Volvo coil then I would just get a new coil, which is what I did.

Hopefully this makes sense.

I think you may have taken this approach on the HID igniter for the headlights. (it may have been a different LR2 owner)

Let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks

Paul

Actually, very early this morning Volvo online parts had the coils for $88 CDN each so my plan was to order 6 once I got home from work. Well, go figure, I get home and the same site raised the price now to $109 CDN each. I had spoken to my LR parts contact on the way home from work JIC he could surprise me but the closest he could come at that time to Volvo's original price was $105 each. Ultimately, I ended up calling my LR parts guy back and ordered them from him a few minutes ago. You win some you loose some........

Only drawback, LR has to order them in and the Volvo store has them in stock and they are 25 minutes away from me.

EDIT: I was a little Censored at the site/shopping bot (an assumption) since the price jumped from this morning to this afternoon.

Follow up:

LR called and told me they were backordered from the UK and ETA was end of Sept. I cancelled the order this morning figuring that i would just get them from the Volvo dealer online site faster. Just went online and placed the order and the freakin' price was down again to $87CDN each! Bought 6 and ETA from the USA is 3-4 business days.

Timing is everything mixed with some luck, bad for LR but good for me Thumbs Up !
