Suspension arms

Hello

Just had MOT and got an advisory for very slight free play in one of ball joints on a front suspension arm . Fix is replacement of whole arm at over £700 for part ! Seems ridiculous and garage said there are no decent after market ones. Will wait till it gets more noticable I think.

My indie shop installed aftermarket arms, but then one of the ball joints failed within a year. He noticed it and took care of it, but yeah. I've since told him just to go OEM for that car.

£700 never …. He probably meant £70 as a replacement bottom ball joint is £30 then £40 to fit it ..

Definitely over £700 for the whole arm ! I have just had new EGR valve and cooler a few months ago and that was extortionate as well. Its not even a main dealer

Many thanks - ordered. It’s the right side as well. Can’t believe garage we’re quoting over £700. That’s my last visit there I think. They were good to begin with . Hope the arm includes the ball joint , which is the advisory

Yes it does it’s the part at the top of the image with the black plastic protective cover on attached to the arm with the three rivets . If something sounds expensive always worth a bit of research into the parts required and a chat on here save yourself a few £££ …

Indeed. Not been on here for a while. Maybe I was ripped for the egr valve and cooler as well, although I was aware it’s not an easy job. I thought the ball joint might be the bit at the top. At least I’ve got one now if the current one gets any worse. Friend next door knows a good mechanic as well and he likes Freelanders !

Hi, I bought one of of Rimmer Bros. OEM quality for £79 plus post. I found the one on ours appears to have been straigtened in the past. The ball joint needs cutting out as its bent. The other side came off all right. £700 a side, wow! EGR valve on Ebay last time I looked £53. I have an EGR valve and cooler in my shed, and a turbo, well two actually, as I have just taken an engine out.

I dont know where your bloke got £700 per arm from. He's conning you I think.

Genuine ones are around £200 each

Whereas Britpart are around £70 each.

I think you need to find another garage. Jules

Me too. They used to be good. Taking the urine comes to mind . It wasn’t the boss who quoted it - one of the ‘guys’. Boss wasn’t there but got to find somewhere else now….and I’ll tell them why
