Injector Noise

I wonder if anyone else has a ticking knocking noise in their engine that seems to be coming from the injectors. The engine of my 2007 Freelander 2 diesel makes quite a few noises, which to me is part of its charm. Sounds like a truck, tappets, intake suction but in the background is this knock which increases in frequency with revs until is blends into one noise. while driving in underground carparks or next to rock walls it is particularly noticeable.
I used a stethoscope to try to isolate it and it definitely seems to be coming from the injectors.
I've searched the forum and there doesn't seem to be a lot on this. What is the collective wisdom? Should I be thinking about an injector service or just ignoring?

What sort of mileage has it done? is it one ijnector or all four? you could try running some cleaner through see it it makes any difference. 2013 FL2 XS.

It's done 203,000km. Two injectors seem to be making the knocking sound. I haven't heard it on other Freelander 2 and there is not much talk of getting them serviced that I have noticed on here.
Yes good suggestion I am going to put some cleaner in the tank next time I'm going on a long drive.

edit to fix typo because I am compulsive obsessive (self-diagnosed)

If the cleaner does not help then possibly might need to have the injectors removed and professionally tested? Good luck hope the cleaner does it. 2013 FL2 XS.

Injector servicing on modern electronic injectors is highly specialised.
Page 999 of JLR manual gives some info.

Thank you for posting this. If anyone would like to read it in English you can open it in a Google chrome browser and click on English in the translate section (top right).

It is interesting because this guy is cleaning his injectors in a way the manual says you shouldn't in that he cleans the tips and also lays the injectors on their side. Presumably he get good results so the injectors are not a fragile as I had thought. I think it gives me confidence to at least remove the injectors and clean the port change the washers and seals and maybe reseat them. But I'll make a rack to clean them while keeping them upright and stay away from the tips.

If the injectors are not sealing properly it leads to a tar build up that can't be good for the engine. I know that on Toyotas at least this tar makes its way to the oil pick-up and blocks it. Oil starvation then kills the engine.

I shall follow your investigation of the injectors with interest.
Thanks Jules

I will try not to disappoint. I have purchased the injector puller for the PSA dw12 engine just incase mine are stuck. I have also bought a seat cutting set. I researched the correct size, and the set contains it, but I have already forgotten what that size is. I have purchased the copper washers (and the positioning rings just in case).
In australia, so I be waiting a few more weeks for all this to arrive. In the meantime I may send some injector cleaner through the system. Once the injectors are out I'll be keeping them upright. I know I am not supposed to clean the tips and I wont be doing that. I also have to find new injector clamp bolts but it seems no one replaces these here... still tossing up if I 'll pay the ridiculous price to import them.
