Greedy dealers

Looking in at a local dealers last week i noticed that they had very few used cars for sale. The salesman told me that they were desperate to buy stock in.I said that if that was the case, they could buy my FL2.Looking outside they had the same car as mine but with more miles(15000 more) advertised at £20995.I waited with baited breath as the salesman went to see his manager(don't they always) then came back with a price.I think we could go to £16000 sir was the response! Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

That's a bit low, tough don't expect more then the other advertised car as they probably need to give warrenty on it which could potentially kill their profit. All providing next to the miles it's the same age and has the same options as well.

Then they are truly greedy. Then again, they just give a quote hoping someone bites the bate.

You was never going to get the same as they are selling the other for , but I would have thought a little more was on the cards for there offer Thumbs Up

You have been looking at selling it for quite some time now Commando, maybe its time to bite the bullet/take a hit/lose a little dosh if your serious about buying a new car, and see what they could improve to Very Happy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

As a site moderator, a little subtlty would be appreciated by those of us who are concerned of trade-in values for our vehicles. Taking a loss is a luxury for those who can afford it!

It worries me that you, as the moderator, may well be an industry stooge (who lost it this time) on this page who tootles about in some other vehicle. Who knows?

Committed LRF2 owners (like me) would like to renew but I, and I expect others, get a different figure and the usual sales tosh from every dealer we choose to speak to.

The invitation is to those dealers who are prepared to 'take less' to move their stock'. A fair deal is all I (we) ask for. Guaranteed we'll recognise and go for the genuine offers.

Discuss…. or offer Firenze Red XS TD4 01/2013 . Averaging 1800 miles per month. My 5th Freelander in 11 years. Devotee?

since when does site moderator mean i can not have an opinion, point of view or make comments Rolling Eyes

Not that i need to explain my comment to you, but i feel like it so......

Commenting on taking a loss on the car, is down to the fact that he has been looking/pondering at a change for some time looking at RRS , and has not been getting the offer he is happy with.

IMO reading what Commando has said, he was asking for them to just buy the car off him, not as a trade in, and just took there offer at face value,

Therefore if he still wishing to change he will have to make that decision, IF he wants to change that badly or at all, AND took it to them and chatted to them for a good length of time they might have budged on the offer

But there is no point in doing all that leg work if, your going to walk away

I doubt there will be anybody who has or will make money on a car purchase, unless your car is sort after and the waiting time is very long. So making a loss is actually life not a luxury

As for been a industry stooge Laughing If you actually knew me (maybe if had been here longer than 22 post), you would know i am a FL2 driver and have been for quite some time and its the best car i have had Exclamation so far....

I will say that I have never seen pinky driving an fl2 but when I recently drove past a local LR dealer there was a guy stood at the window wearing a pink track suit. coincidence??? maybe?

But I did once meet a strange fellow from Kippax who thought it was a good idea to stick magnetic side panels on his FL2 Rolling with laughter He has called Nick but wasn't pink.

As for car values, they are worth what someone is prepared to pay on the day , simple as that. If you feel your dealer isn't offering enough, either haggle or walk away. Its not really him being greedy he is just offering a price he can make a few ££'s on, fair enough I say. Take it or leave it.
In return the prices on his forecourt cars are speculative, either beat him down to a sensible price or walk away.

The dealer doesn't set the prices, the trade and ultimately the general public sorts that out. At work

£16k is a bit mean. I'd pay £18,000 subject to it being a 57 plate, being under 19,000 miles, not requiring any preparation and having had it's 1st service on time.

PM me if that's of any help. Obviously if you are looking to buy an RRS then I may be able to help with that too.

I got my project finished as much as i could for all the doors

I think for the Mk I version it was quite good, but to be honest not worth the hassle as the cold weather made the panels a little too stiff, but should be better in the warmer weather

Spent thursday machine polishing the Conifer tree rash out of the cars, but thought how much worst it would have been,

Only £130 in parts (or a pair of jeans) so not much to loose, but i still have just over half a roll of white magnetic to play with Very Happy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
