I have just swapped engines in a 2008 FL2 2.2 diesel. The engine loom has different pins on the two grey plugs in the Engine fuse box. The old engine had three pins on the right hand plug looking towards the rear of the car. The new engine has six wires. What happens when i connect the power? My 2009 car has three pins in a five pin plug. It works, but the ecu has been re-flashed at service time. The 2008 loom has the connection for the neutral switch, but the 2009 car has the switch, but no connection.

Hi, it was sold to me as suitable for the 2008 year. I suspect from the original advert that it came from a 2010 year car. It fitted alright on the gearbox, everything looks the same. Just not the same number of wires in the small grey plugs in the fuse box. Thanks for your interest. |

An engine is a lump of metal, you can take the engine wiring loom off the old engine and put it on the new one, however the lumps of metal had bits changed over the years so the result you get may not be the ultimate as designed by LR as there may be changes to the sensors that result in different plug and socket configurations. The safest is to change the ECU to the 2010 version as 2010 was a big upgrade on mechanicals a 2013 was a big upgrade on electrics. You may even have an SD engine, you need to Google the engine number and maybe need to consult Topix or a very good specialist to find what you have and what you need my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

HI, thanks for the reply. I have tried to compare the wiring diagrams, but cannot see what changes apart from a neutral indicator switch on the gearbox, and stop start. Dashboard configuration seems to change. I will see if the loom will fit, as it is the easiest solution. I will update when I know more. Best regards.
