Where do I get a sump and fuel guard

I got one from them last month as it was missing on my FL2 I had just purchased.

There has just been some for sale worth checking if they sold or not

Just did a quick search on google for Freelander 2 fuel tank guards -
Devon 4x4 sell the Rival one which have a good reputation £425 for 4mm aluminum.
Muddy mods sell one that looks substantial is made from 8mm aluminum £290.
Flat dog sell one made from 5mm aluminum £288.

A word of warning, the tank guard is rarely removed, but the tanks hang low and are VERY easily damaged (speaking from bitter experience) so thick and heavy might be a good idea.
The one that covers the engine needs to be taken off every service, heavy offers protection, but blow me it's a right pain in the chest every time you lower it down and refit.

Both the guards will fill with clay that bakes hard and MUST be removed by dropping the guard and shifting with a hammer and chisel, or will get stones lodged that again require the guard to be dropped to dislodge. The engine guard is normally fine until you get stuck and have to reverse, then it acts as a scoop. If you are really lucky you will be playing in sand that doesn't bake hard or be full of stones.

The plastic engine guard fitted as standard is move of an acoustic deflector and doesn't offer protection from solid objects - does offer some protection from water splashes, so don't discard it without fitting something else. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I think you are confusing the engine sump guard on a Freelander 1, which is made of plastic.
The Freelander 2 engine sump guard is made of pressed steel.

It was the steel sump guard that was missing on the Freelander2.
Being new to Freelanders i didn't realise there should be one on after 16 years on Disco1/Disco2.
Anyway, spoke to the previous owner who said "it was there when i sold the car to the dealer"
Although how he knew it was there without lying down and looking.
Car came with a huge folder of work done and servicing.
Took advantage of the recent Landrover offer of a complete health check and engine oil and filter change for £149 inc vat and Taggarts gave the car a good report.
I would have had the oil changed anyway. Now nearing 80 i have to get all work done by a garage.
Miss my Disco 2 but looking forward to my time in the Freelander Jim A

You are probably right - the Freelander 1 was plastic. Our Freelander 2 was G4 - so Mantec aluminium. Current DS is plastic, I know this because it is damaged and hanging down, will be removed once it stops raining - lying in the gutter full of rain isn't my idea of the perfect Sunday Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Firstly, how many of you out there have a fuel tank guard?
After having to buy a sump guard on inspection there is no fuel tank guard on my Freelander.
Certainly not going off road, roughest it would maybe get would be a forestry rd.
Should I really need to go to the expense of a fuel tank guard or not?
Thoughts please, gents.

As I said earlier, the sump and tank guards were not standard fitment, only on G4 variants.

These guards were an aftermarket product from Mantec, now defunk'd

the guards do come up on here and eBay from time to time.

it is not necessary to have a tank guard for general driving, only when going off of the road.

Keep those eyes peeled.

This is a very confused topic! The steel (as fitted from the factory) engine under tray (AKA sump guard) is really just thin plate and is intended to keep mud and crud from the underside of the car and also helps with noise reduction as it should have an acoustic blanket attached. Its not really any protection for any serious offroading. The Freelander 2 from the factory did not have a fuel tank guard fitted. If your only doing forest tracks then you should not need one. The engine tray is probably propping up a wall in a workshop somewhere!

Don, you are very probably right. The guard i purchased is actually quite heavy.
Gave it a clean and fresh paint before it was fitted.
Don,t think i will bother with a tank guard.
Planning a wee trip out to Ardamurchan Lighthouse and up via Skye to Applecross and the famous(infamous?) Bealach na Ba or "Pass of the cattle" in English. Been on my list for a while but covid stopped any plans.
Enjoying my time on here, so similar and helpful as the D2 boys club was.

also a pic of the factory "sump protection plate" in thin steel, it will give some protection due to the pressings in the plate but nothing like the mantec stuff.
