Dropped the Freelander off at the garage for a short service (big one last year) cambelt change (only done 18k but 7 year old) check of offside front drive shaft seal as very slight misting noticed last service and general check over and MOT. Hate these times of the year as you think its all ok but something always bites your rear toilet area. Just had new Wranglers on all corners as the originals were starting to wear and were cracking so at least thats a job off the list! Should know how hard the wallet will be hit by the middle of the week 2014 Freelander 2 XS TD4

If it’s a TD4 & only done 18,000 don’t waste your money on a new cam belt wait till 10yrs 👍 |

They changed the rules on the cambelt from 10 yrs to 7 yrs on post 2012/13 models. Yes I doubt it will have worn with that mileage but its peace of mind, by not doing it if the belt goes I lose a good engine! I have a 2002 Focus we have owned from 2003 and that had its belt changed at 18 years old with 95000 miles on the clock, that belt was still in excellent condition but its always a gamble. Head says change it heart says save your money, but head rules, cannot see why LR changed the schedule though as engine power is the same or less on the TD4 than the older models???? 2014 Freelander 2 XS TD4

Its not just about the cambelt. I've heard about a failing tensioner pulley throwing the cambelt off. Jules |

Apologies Volrider - lot of misinformation out there. It would appear that the recommendation for ALL facelift models whether TD4 or SD4 changed to 7 years for replacement cambelt. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

All done the MOT is tomorrow, belts water pump and pulleys changed as expected looked like new due to very low miles, frustrating as had to do it for peace of mind as its 7 years old. Intermediate service carried out no issues other than the slight misting which is a seal on the transfer box but not dripping just slight damp, been same way for the three services I had done since owning it. That can wait until it gets worse oil levels in gearbox and Transfer box both right so its not losing any measurable amount. Only snag was had to put a bit of fresh water in the expansion bottle due to airlock after having the anti freeze drained for the job. Pre MOT check showed nothing of concern so hopefully goes well tomorrow.

An independent guy I know, knew him from when he was a kid and his dad a friend of mine worked on MG's etc as a hobby, Matt has inherited his Dad's talents and works for himself working on all cars and does restoration work on all types he prefers MG's but happy to tackle any classic he is working on a MGA at the moment, just finished a Morris Minor split screen, looked a cracking job. He knows his stuff and he does not carry the overheads a garage does. He lets me buy the stuff which suits me as I can choose the oil etc I want he just charges labour, he has been my go to guy for three years now not because of the price but the reason is I trust him. He worked at a local garage prior to working for himself is an MOT inspector and loads of qualifications so he knows his stuff often baffles me when he explains things, I just say is it good to go if he says yes I am happy
