Although when i shut down at home i switch everything off, so starting with a basic car.

Mine will also do it about 1 time out of 20 if you start and immediately go into Drive before the engine has fully picked up to idle speed. Shift to N for a few seconds and it will then respond.

The ECU has a cranking / start up phase and a transition to idle phase. If it cant or doesn't transition to idle there is no pedal response.
