It's not aircon OR a heater. It works by removing moisture from the air and functions with your heating turned up providing hot air just as it does providing cold air with heating turned down. Try it and see. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

If it's on AUTO, then the AC runs in conjunction with the heater. This supplies dry warm air to the interior, minimising condensation on the windscreen and interior. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I topped the Aircon gas up on our Golf two days ago. Bought a bottle of gas and a gauge from Halfords. £50 for gas (which included a £10 deposit on bottle) and £22 for a gauge. They were trade card prices - should have been £60 and £30 respectively. Cheaper available online if you shop around. Took 5 minutes - no different from pumping a tyre up. Nice and chilly now and I probably have enough gas left for two or three more topups on other cars.

Step 1 check the temperature at the vents

If you are in the blue (or very close) then I wouldn't re-gas

The units are Fahrenheit (for the metric minded 5C to 10C is the blue region)

Picture is from my S80 with a failing compressor (after replacing the compressor its in the blue)

My Land Rover is two year older than my S80 and it is always in the blue (still on the original compressor, good job Land Rover picking quality parts)

Step 2 clean the evaporator and replace the filter if you are worried about the vents (Biological contaminates)

Volvo S80 but the procedure is equivalent (in fact my S80 and LR2 use the same cabin air filter)

PS the one advantage to getting a professional to re-gas is that they should have a machine that can remove the gas and weigh it and replace exactly the correct amount. I don't do this I just check the high side and low side pressure and I make sure that the low side doesn't get below 30 PSI (on a cold day) or above 45 PSI (Hot Day)

the day it split was very warm, when I put the aircon on it was NOT cool at all, my question is this, would a split intercooler pipe affect the aircon?? Wouldn't have thought so.
the air intake for the engine is separate from the air intake for the cabin.

The intercooler radiator sits in front of the aircon radiator - is it possible that the aircon radiator has been damage while repairs were carried out - slipped screwdriver? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

The compressor has a clutch and clutches don't like to be soaked in oil.

On my 3.2 I can put the HVAC in economy mode and the clutch disengages and then press auto on the HVAC and it engages.

It is easy to see on the 3.2. I have no idea if you can see it engage on the diesel.

If you get a set of AC gauges you can confirm that the clutch is working because the low side pressure will be about 1/5 of the high side (35 PSI and 160 PSI)

If the clutch doesn't engage then the pressure will be the same for low side and high side (about 70 PSI depending on the ambient temperature)

If you get gauges make sure to get the ones that have a knob to Engauge the Schrader valve. I bent my high side Schrader valve and it has a very slow leak (I capped it to stop the leak)

Did my Rover75 tourer at ATS with the groupon certificate on Thursday really cold now had to turn the heater up as was getting brain freeze!

Can any human mess up whilst screwing two hoses onto dedicated ports and pressing play on a fully automated machine?

Would I let ATS do my cambelt? No.
Would I let ATS recharge my aircon? Yes.
