Command shift modification?

I don’t often use Command Shift but when I do I always have to think about which way to move the gear lever. My natural instinct would be to pull back to change up and push forward to change down, the opposite, of course, of what’s required. Is moving the lever just operating a switch of some sort rather than moving linkage on or in the gearbox and if so, could it be modified to work the other way round?

Are you a "leftie"? Serious Q BTW?

As for command shift direction, I would associate shifting to a lower gear as shifting "down" and to a higher gear as shifting "up". I came from 5 speed manuals gearboxes (which I drove exclusively until the LR2/FL2) & the LR2 still confuses me re. command shift direction.

re. modification request, subbed for interest. Thumbs Up

No, not a leftie Smile

Just to be clear, by changing/shifting down I mean going from, say, fourth gear to third and vice versa for changing/shifting up.

Same..
I never know what people mean by "shift up" and "shift down", and always get the direction wrong when using command shift...

Command shift direction is correct IMO.

Having driven Freelander 1s for over a decade, where Command shift was forwards for up the box, and backwards for down (touring car sequential box style).

Then the wife got a BMW convertible with Tiptronik auto box, which was the other way round, and the wrong way round IMO. I couldn't count the number of times I'd be driving the BMW and select a higher gear, when I wanted a lower gear, which isn't ideal when you want extra power to overtake.

I did investigate changing the BMW shift direction, but it wasn't possible as it wasn't just a switch swap.

I'd be more than happy with the way the Freel2 Command Shift is laid out, although mine is manual, which means I make all the decisions about what gear to use and when. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I tend to use command shift a fare amount of the time and
have never thought about it or found it a problem,
but yes I can see others may have issues, so
it would be interesting to see if the setup could be reversed.

With 'Proper' sequential boxes, such as those made by Quaife, it’s pull back to change up and push forward to change down. I’d have to say I find that much more logical so I do wonder if it’s a 'simple' matter of switching a couple of wires around. Well, I’m sure it would be more than that but if it’s controlled by electronics surely it could be possible?

Use it when towing to shift up sooner than the programed map wants to. Find the up / down fairly intuitive. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
