Returning to the fold (?)

After a 4 year absence, I am contemplating buying another Freelander. I am looking at a 2013/2014, HSE, HSE Lux or Metropolis. I have noticed that some Freelanders are fetching £15k plus; some even hitting £19k. My question is; is £15k a reasonable price to pay for a 7/8 year old car?

England 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Auto Barolo Black

I've recently gone through a similar dilemma having had a very late 2012 Fl2 Sd4 Sport le which I'd had for 3 years and had covered 98k with fsh and a few of the usual Fl2 big jobs ticked off , the wife's 07 Fl2 was getting ready for changing after 8 years sterling service , the problem was I couldn't warrant the chunk of cash plus my Fl2 for one that was barely two years newer but with around 40/50k on the clock . I considered other manufacturers including a Skoda kodiaq and a Ford Kuga both of which I could have got with less miles and at least two years newer than the equivalent Landrover Fl2 or Ds , the wife wanted another Landrover so we plumped for a 2015 Ds Hse with the 2.2 Sd4 engine hoping it will give sterling service . I've had a few issues with the Ds mainly the rear electric tailgate/catch/wiring and a front parking sensor fail . It drives great , firmer suspension than the Fl2 and I miss the command view of the Fl2 . Would I have another Fl2 after living with the Ds for a few months ? I would but not for what prices that are being asked for them , I think a Ds is a good alternative for a similar price or possibly a bit less and slightly newer . I wouldn't want to risk a 2.0 ingenium Ds tbh though . Hope you manage to find a nice Fl2 and keep us posted Thumbs Up

Good hunting Eddie,
I walked past a forecourt yesterday that had a MY14 TD4 GS manual @ £17295
Ok it looked superb, full leather seats and FSH....but still a lot of cash for 6/7 year old car.

Eddie,

Good luck with the search. I returned to the fold fairly recently too. I had my heart set on a HSE lux or Metropolis but found the prices eye watering too! I decided to buy as new as I could and picked up a 15 plate SE Tech which has most of the toys I wanted and good history with 69k miles for just over £11k. Really pleased with it and there are some good buys out there if you’re patient. I decided that I could live without heated steering wheel, reversing camera and sunroof!

Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks Mark and Dave for the info. Maybe I'm being very fussy, but I have seen some cheaper ones, it's just the hesitation in buying a "bargain" from an unknown garage. Recently a garage near me had a 2013 HSE for sale for just under £11k, but I don't trust them. The reputable garages seem to be the ones that are asking higher prices, albeit, the cars are usually low mileage.

I have looked at the Discovery Sport, having driven one as a courtesy car when they first came out. The ones that I have looked at in my budget (£18k) on Autotrader, are high mileage and non-main dealer, so warranty then becomes key. I only do around 8k miles a year with the odd longer journey, so oil dilution may be a problem. Having said that, My 2013 Tiguan hasn't caused me any problems in that department.

I am going to keep on searching and, hopefully, will find what I want. Fingers crossed.

Your 2013 Tiguan is unlikely to be Euro 6, so oil dilution shouldn't be an issue.

At 8k a year I would stay away from any manufacturers Euro 6 diesel. You are definitely into petrol territory, the slightly better fuel economy of the diesel on longer runs just doesn't work out around town, add in a DPF and adblue and you are kidding yourself if you think a diesel is cheaper to run.

If dealers were honest they would refuse to sell you a Euro 6 diesel car based on that sort of mileage.

An older FL2 up to 2009 would be Euro 4 - great around town, even the last of the Freelanders were Euro 5 so still no oil dilution. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Unsurprisingly i have just returned to the fold too, after going from a 62 LE Sport 2 years ago to a MY12 D4 XS to a short 6 months with an 18 plate Kia Sportage
The D4 was totally amazing in every aspect, but due to lack of use during Covid coupled with the standard D4 'whats going to fail on me' anxiety i got the Kia. This was actually a very good car in almost every aspect but i missed the Land Rover badge too much and changed it last week.

Ive now got a 63 plate HSE Lux with 64k in Santorini Black with Ivory leather. Feels good to be back up high on the road and not having to cringe at every little pothole or pebble i drive over Very Happy

Yes it was pricey for a 7 year old car but it turned into a straight swap for the Kia pretty much. Prices across the board for all makes seem to have gone up but then so have part ex prices so its swings and roundabouts

Yeh. Kia was a good car but in the end just not for me, miss the D4 but it was just sitting doing a big nothing. The freelander is just a smaller version to sit on the drive

This is an OV63 ... reg so I suspect the 1st owner for 3 years was land rover fleet in some way.

All used cars seem to have gone up recently. The WBAC valuation on my Evoque that I sold in February has gone up by over £2k and our A3 that replaced it (which the sis in law let us have for the Feb WBAC valuation) has gone up by £3,165 since February! She wasn’t even buying another - she sold it to raise money to fund a house move and she hasn’t even seen the house she wants yet. I bet she could kick herself. cheers Bob and bxzx16v, obviously ive a good idea of what to look for and check and this one has been well looked after. 4 decent tread General Grabber GT and all the alloys in near perfect condition, bone dry underneath and receipts for new discs and pads at 55k. Only failed one MOT in 64k miles for a track rod end which was changed straight away with receipt to prove. Unfortunately no evidence of the timing belt and water pump being done so this will be the first thing along with haldex, diff and auto box oils.

All that will still cost me less than just the belts on the D4 Laughing
