I just got a hitch cargo carrier... very easy to take on and off, assuming you already have a hitch receiver.

I got one with it's own hitch receiver so I can use my hitch bike rack on the cargo carrier.

I fitted the aftermarket version of the roof rails, not terribly difficult to fit, cost £150 if memory serves then bought a second hand set of genuine lr cross bars from a member on here. Already have a set of aftermarket cross bars with cycle carriers mounted on them permanently so all options covered. Unfortunately I never ended up doing anything. We wanted to get a specific tent at the time I started this thread, but struggled to find it. Time moved on, but we were in no rush so it didn't matter, then Covid hit. Holidays got cancelled, and we never really have these plans another thought.

I have no valuable experience to draw on for advice, all I can say is I was planning on just using the standard rail mounting points. I would assume LR have put them in the most appropriate places for weight & balance or strength properties, but I tend to play these sorts of things safe. I seem to remember my research at the time making me decide not to go with the door clamp type, though I can't remember why now. Sorry to be a bit useless for you, though it sounds like there's plenty of others with good advice.
