Surely this must shorten the life of the starter?

Maybe on older cars you'd have an issue where the driver could crank the engine over until the cows come home, but these days the electronics play a more significant part in the whole cranking procedure, cutting out once the engine fires and when your battery is low in most cases the starter will not turn over. Not only that but the system kicks in after the initial start and it takes a lot less effort to turn over a warm engine than a cold one.
A starter is basically a motor, and they can have a very long life, so there is no reason that it wouldn't last. Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!

Yes but the starter teeth on the ring gear must wear quicker surely? Confused
